There's no conclusive proof of the Sally Hemmings/TJ coupling. The Jeffersons were a big family (the DNA doesn't show whether it is TJ, or one of his brothers, cousin, etc), and Hemmings was a mulatto, and probably a maid, not slave. TJ also made moves towards abolition, and opposed the British slavers.
Yes, he did keep slaves for some time--so did Washington and other FFs. For that matter, so did generations of French and British aristocrats (as did arabs and africans themselves). Yes, slavery should be condemned, but in many instances (not all of course), slaves probably had a better existence at a nice plantation than they would have back in Africa, where warrior tribes kept them in cages.

first of all I would like to appologize for hijacking your post in case I do or will.
Yeah it was a nice life on the plantation, after that pleasant ocean voyage on a slave ship.
TK I can only hope you are being as sarcastic as me.
I think yu are right about Hemming, but her children are still related to him. The Jefferson family has a yearly reunion at Monticello, they have finaly invited the hemming family too.

Sehr Schoen!
You're fast on the Google-trigger, Mizz DP.
"makes me stronger"
I would put it something like (perhaps native German could correct me),
"That which does not bring me to destruction, strengthens me..."
or perhaps "What does not destroy me, strengthens me..."
Or mebbe it's like "kill or be killed, mutha-fers"
