A chapter begins......

Post by hester_prynne » April 17th, 2007, 12:08 am

So here i sit in the Beautiful Skagit Valley in the very early stages of creating a new life...again.
That's a nice and easy way of saying that I made it out of Astoria to a new and better place and I'm looking for work so I won't become homeless.
And I won't either.

You know, driving up and out of Astoria was something. The whole way I kept feeling like I was crawling out of a dirty, corrupt hole. When I hit the Bummertown-Seattle ferry I was feeling pretty cleaned up, but man, when that ferry docked in downtown Seattle, I felt home! Safe! Free!
I have a very few friends still living there that I will miss, but that's it. Most of the folks I knew there moved out well before I did. The biggest option you have in Astoria is to rot.

I'm excited to
be here now.
I'm confident.
(they had to hire two people to do the job I left behind!...she said, thumpin her chest.)

Wish me luck my friends.
And when I get settled in a couple of months, come and visit!!!!!

Smoochies

Indeed Jim and all, I can see the Skagit river right out the window! It's not as big as the columbia, it's smaller, dreamier and kind of makes me want to sing "Tammy".

I shure do appreciate all of your positive responses. Got my first gig today at a rest home, singing on contract. For one hour, I get 50 bucks. I may become a kareoke lady. It's fairly lucrative! Scareoke lady more like it! heh.

I'll keep you posted. There is much to explore. A poetry cafe, a cool co-op, tons of folks my age, etc, etc, etc. Sent out a bunch of job apps already too.

You're positive support is really appreciated.
Lovies,

Hey hest...

Is the Skagit Valley tulip festival on?... made it up there 6 or 7 years back (I think it was Apr. 10 or 11)... yeah, I know; it's a bit of a tourist sideshow moneymaker, but what an amazing canvas of brilliance... the "loner" tulips struck me... single different seeds (inadvertently?) dropped in with mass plantings of other colors... the lone yellow or purple in a sea of red...

I'll try and stop by this summer, y'know...

Tulip festival is on Mnaz! I drove out towards LaConner on Sunday night with my sister and a friend from Astoria who drove up with me. It was a sight to behold and i'm not surprized at all that you remember it. It's unreal to see those endless rows of gorgeous tulips, pink, then yellow, then bright red, then purple!, then white, etc, etc.
LaConner is a wonderful ol fishing town where Tom Robbins lives and writes. He's no Hemingway but he's notable and visible they say, at poetry readings and festivals. Ho Hum. But LaConner is a stunning place. Who knows, maybe i'll end up living there....
The stars are out tonight, can you see them? It's nice to know that when you leave somewhere, the same stars are always with you no matter what.
The stars in the sky, and the stars in studioeight.
It's so nice to have you all to talk to....
