A POV By Me!!!!

Post by Dave The Dov » April 18th, 2007, 6:04 pm

I wonder if everyone could comment on this please. It an observation that I've made. I noticed that the poet Nikki Giovanni who teaches at Virgina Tech. She had Cho in one of her writing classes. But she had him removed after he started to scare some of the students in that class. She also commented to the press that he was a bad student over all. If he was being a bad student why didn't she pull him over to the side and have a talk with him. So as to see what the problem was in the first place. Then I noticed she gave a reading of a poem at the memorial service. I've seen this poem and when I read it. The poem looked nothing more then an empty ra ra to me. I think she is putting considerable distace between having Cho in her class and giving the poem reading so as to not have the finger pointed at her and say you should have stopped him sooner.

Well Davy, as far as I heard, she told her higher ups that if he wasn't expelled from her class she'd consider resigning.....and then, he was taught one on one by some prof chick named lucinda.
Yes he had a history, was treated and released.
This kind of insane explosion can never be policed, unless of course we want to become a police state where everyone is watched because a few wackos lurk amongst us.
I wish this young man could have gotten what he needed. But most professional "counselors" don't know what a person whose come to this needs. They can't relate, they don't get it, the depth, the urgency of the need. They don't want to believe that anger can create violent, insane, killer monsters on their watch, especially if it's close to 5 and time to go home or go have a fancy beer. Their bosses tell them to minimize minimize minimize response. I know this because even a few years ago, when I worked in a domestic violence crisis center, the "county counselors" were always minimizing what I interpreted as a huge need, and they would leave these poor unstable people to their own devices. They had no compassion or understanding of the depth of emotion. It really used to piss me off how lame these so called educated, and certainly way overpaid people were. I saw their methods backfire on more than one tearful occasion.
I believe that anger untended for a long long period of time can create this in all of us, we are all capable of it and perhaps this is why we can't get enough of it when someone actually acts it out. I believe that there is alot more anger like this brewing in our midst. It's terrifying. But the fires are being stoked with losses for many. Foreclosures after big happy promises of the American dream, job cuts, pension thefts, a war that the majority hates, a world that sees America as ignorant. We still live in the "strict father" mode in this country, which is, of course obsolete. For example, to think that old idiot farts (male and female) still think that abortion should be illegal, and yet viagra should be free. Give me a fucking break!!!! It's unreal!
Yadda yadda yadda. There's more to be mad about than happy about for many people, and that my dear is DANGEROUS. Especially when the have nots way way outnumber the haves.
Watch yere back buddy....and try to evoke love every minute, especially
if you sense someone is frustrated, or feeling unloved and hopeless or angry and alone. Give it to them. Go the extra mile, so what if you miss some of your favorite tv show....or dinner. We need to feed each other love and kindness. Lots of it. A thanksgiving feast of it, before it slips away entirely.
Hell, why not?

Yeah blame the poets. That what Plato advises. Its Nikke Giovanni's fault. She shoulda saved his soul and made him nice. 'Stead of kickin him out of class. What a selfish teacher. Just cause the student is scaring the shit out of the other kids in class doesn't mean they dont deserve a break.

Christ, look what happened to big Dick Cheney when they kicked him outta Yale? He became an even bigger mass murderer than Cho.
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.

When I came across Giovanni's work the first time I liked it. But now I'm not going to read it any more because of the distancing whitewash that she has done now. I hope that other professor can weather the storm and come out of it alright. She seems more brave then Giovanni by far. I think I'll see if that professor has any work out there that has been published and if I do I'll read it instead of Giovanni's work.
