What Makes You Happy?

Post by Lightning Rod » April 25th, 2007, 10:37 am

I'm never happy
but I'm happiest when I smoke
this is because I know that death is part of life
I also like being quiet and thinking
I suppose some call this meditation
but I don't have the discipline for that
I prefer to call it staring off into space

But happiness is not a state of being
it is an active verb
yes, I know, it's not a verb at all
but a noun, the name of a thing that is out there
an object to be grasped for

this brings me to gratitude and thankfulness
these are obscure notions to some
but I find that I am happier when I am grateful or thankful

to some, the simple avoidance of pain or anxiety is happiness
in biology, there are several things which characterize a living thing
these are things such as respiration, reproduction, excretion, mobility
one of the definitions of being alive is that you exhibit irritability
this means that you seek comfort and avoid discomfort
but biology says nothing about happiness

that's probably because happiness is not in the realm of biology or any science
and philosophy and religion really confuse the subject
art comes the closest to defining it
because art wants to capture the moment, the butterfly
the feeling that is gone before it can be described

contentment is a pale version of happiness
I've experienced it. It's better than some of the alternatives.
so, we have to ask ourselves the question:
Is happiness something that we settle for or something that we strive for?

I think it's neither.
I think we are all happy. Call me a Pollyanna.
but as soon as we discover who we are
we also discover that we are happy.

Nothing makes us happy
unless we make happiness
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

feta cheese and salad
cranberries
yes it is a delight
to taste
the flavors of this life
whatever it takes
to suit you
babycakes

follows the light the air
curtains blowing in a breeze
the lips
swallowing what seems so illusive
the fire the ash
the air
you know i like smoke
he showers before bed

i think that being happy is a false facade
that each time you think that you have arrived'

it is merely a set up for humility
another character building session for the soul
having fun and happiness
sometimes encounter a momemt of a broken loop
as a pretezel can only form a certain way
leaving a crooked and unusual impression
often the smell of beer oozed off his skin
his beard was like a breeze off the sea
never really sure where he had been
i did not care
he is dead now
i miss him from time to time

i was happy with him as a 29 year old girl
then i became happy in a different way
alove that changed me forever
the surfer man with no future
but he could read the sea like the stars
i loved the italaina for all that he shows me about love and beauty and caring for the soul
i love the man that sleeps in my bed every night and hold s me closely
we sleep wrapped in each others dreams
and although sometimes he is snaps like a twig and i am s like a wolf
i am happy with him
what is happy for you?
he loves me
it feels like no other love
