A Further Thought on Misfits and Outcasts
here is a discussion about the National Music of Misfits and Outcasts
called The Blues
It's Son House and Mike Bloomfield talking about the blues. There's music at the front but listen to what Son House has to say about the blues.

Great video! Thanks!
Mike Bloomfield was soooo young!
Hey well all human beings were young once, right?
The blues has nothing to do with misfits and outcasts. Absolutely nothing. It has to do with being HUMAN.
It is the International Music of Being Human.
That's one thing we all are. Human.
Some of my favorite music is the blues.... it's the music of being human.

Escher? That was a spoonerism. Thank you eugene.Lightning Rod wrote:doreen,
I don't know how you can say that the blues has nothing to do with outcasts and misfits. The blues came from the roots of slavery and oppression and racism. How can you get more outcast than that?
gene,
Don't go Escher on me like that.

Escher was graphic lithographer. Not a linguist.
The blues came from the roots of being human. We're all slaves to that. Mostly, like country music, they're cryin' in their beer. Play it backwards, what do you get? You get yer job back & your dead dog back. Human experience. I do see your point about slaves being outcasts. But misfits? Hell, they ran the frickin farm, for crissake! And they slept with da boss lady. I don't think they were one bit misfit.

The blues is a human story... happens to us all....
My baby done left me.
I ain't gotta penny to my name.
I'm lyin' here lookin' at the ceilin'
wonderin' whether to go insane.
I gotta nickel-ful bag of regrets
a dime bag o' discontent
and sometimes I can't remember
my own name!

Escherisms are the visual versions of Spoonerisms
you can look at them in at least two ways
Of course the blues are about the human story
and part of the human story is being an oppressed outcast misfit
we all feel like that at times
sure we try to fit in
but it doesn't always work out, does it?
think outside the page
