abuser song #8 "the happy one"

Post by joel » September 4th, 2007, 11:43 am

I only ask to be the happy one—
I give so much, abandon all the rest
of hedonistic wealth, and beg alone
to be the happy one amidst the mass
and frenzied claims of capital. And still
you call me greedy, ascetic though I am.
Love, go ahead and martyr me and snuff
me out because for me my joy's enough.
If only you gave happiness— but damn
your selfishness, your gluttony. You’d kill
me, wouldn’t you, before you’d ever pass
on filth you claim you need if it were shown
to pass me happiness? But I am blessed
the more who asked to be the happy one.

Indeed the happy one! Me too.
Except when my lack of money makes people cruel to me.
Even though they have way way more than enough!

I'll never have more than enough.
Because when I do, I give it away to other happy ones short on cash.
It seems it's always the happy ones that are poor.

I like this alot Joel.
It speaks to me and sets me free a little from an overwhelming amount of self-doubt that has plagued me lately.

The happy clan - hopefully not to be driven to extinction.
