in the end, what is it all for?

Post by joel » September 17th, 2007, 11:29 am

Another vase-of-flowers doomed to fade
to tell me now you love me; I believe
you— maybe not forever, but for now
and isn’t now what love commemorates –
first cut and then arranged and lastly lost –
in flowers’ fragile momentary gift:
a lovely pledge at context’s edge pursued
where love is not immortal, but renewed—
where trained bouquets by transience uplift
a promise gladly (at the gruesome cost
of evermore decay) that valor waits
while faith its trust reiterates by prow
and humble means, while flowers fresh relieve
old flowers dead— Commitments love persuade.

This is why the rose is the symbol of love. Damn thorns. And soon? Dead as dead can be. :( Bummer.

The thorns are the best part of the rose
sharp, enduring, drawing real blood
not temporary as a petal or fleeting as a bloom
the thorns mean business, they protect
until the next blossom comes because
no flower blooms every day

thanks for the kind words, all
-- i appreciate them (these pages are my best link to the world in this temporarily continuing permanent-home-of-my-own-lessness)

tru dat to the thorns--
i doubt there are fossils of rose petals,
delicate tissue doesn't record well
because everything knows how fickle it is
but the thorns have a chance in the georecord
even if only as carbonized arrows
pointing off to wherever

but the thorns have a chance in the georecord
One must fear not to become the thorn in another one's side.........so to speak......

Yes, the thorn may be strong, but often feared for the blood that is drawn when touching it.......
