Your invitation flatters me— to come
experience the conversations of
your tables, to enjoy the delicate
and savory delights you’d serve: I’m still
amazed; how scrumptiously diverse a spread—
I’d buy some wine to be a hostess gift—
or else some flowers— or perhaps a cake—
all purchased on the estimates I make
of what might most appropriately lift
to the occasion. Silence, though, and dread:
I’d fumble for the fork to use or spill
my wine across your tablecloth, not fit
among your other company— I’d love
to come and share, but fear I’d fear me dumb.

I've read this several times already and am left tongue-tied...but i want to share with you right now Pablo Neruda.... a couple of stanza's from his poem "Wine"
Fall wine or spring wine, wine
and drinking mates, at a table littered
with leaves from the equinox, the Big River
of the world blanching to be so far
from our song.
I am an easy drinker.

You didn't come hear so i could tear off
a piece of your life. When you leave
you can take something of mine: some roses or
chestnuts or surefire roots
to be shared with comrade.

You can sing along with me until
our drinks run over and stain the board
purple.
.

Your words always move me Joel.

Thank you
