I did not say that I found my nightmares pleasant. It was just a pleasant feeling not to remember my name, or who I was supposed to be that one morning. I felt a moment's fear, but I let it go and just enjoyed the feeling of being reborn. Not sure how Kerouac felt about it, I would have to re-read that passage again.
I love my dreams because I can look through the looking glass of the unconscious artist and see bits and peices that I can use.
For example I had one recurring nightmare when I first started driving forty ton trucks. I would top a hill and see a red light at the bottom of the hill with a busy cross street and cars lined up at the light waiting for it to change. And at that very moment an air line broke on my truck leaving me with no way to stop. After the second or third time I had the dream I would always approach the top of hills on city streets with extra alertness. And as I descended the hill I would look for safe places to run off the road if my brakes failed, and if I did not see vacant lots or open areas I would look for trees to stop the truck.
Just things like that. If I wake up troubled from a dream I like to spin it in such a way that I can apply it to a problem at hand.
Sometimes my nightmares are funny, I dreamt about confronting a huge gorilla like monster with a horn growing out of the top of his head, in my dream I started making loud grunting noises to warn him off and woke to the sound of my grunts.
What partisans you talking about?

What struck me about the gorilla dream was at first I thought he had a horn growing out of his head. But when I thought about it later I realized it was one of those little pointy hats that kids where at birthday parties.
But no cold sweats compadre.
But I have had other issues with with the documented side effects of other medications for example with SSRI's, I got a friend who is a student of the brain, an MD, one of those guys who still believes in the art of medicine, he causally mentioned to me to "watch out" I knew what he meant his warning came too late. I already knew about effexor rage, or what ever it was called. I already had a cut tendon in my pinky finger from "green pepper" rage.
yeah a dream journal for sure, you know I am cold blooded enought about art to be curious what you might do with those dreams. but I don't wish you to be a martyr for your art.
I read somewhere zen I think that to be enlightened or awake is to be awake in your dream, a distant remote consciousness in dreams that is almost like the "director of the movie"
cold sweats
I have only had that once in my life and I was wide awake.
Good thing you got a practice going or I would worry about you
oh well
anothe day
another 20 bucks at the rosewater foundation
anoter couple thousand words tossed into the ocean of the net
and another spew. aboot art.

one last post please
just to clear something up
I was doing what might have been a dangerous cocktail. SSRI's plus pot. It is more like SSRI's times pot
'
No idea what meds you are on, but I googled known side effects medications cold sweats, nightmares and I got a lot of hits for SSRI's
and a couple hits for the diabetes medication I am taking too.
I got no answers I hope I don't sound like I am pontifactin, just speaking from my experience
but to paraphrase Nietzsche
"who the hell has time for experience ."
I sure wish I had told that nurse practicioner that I was a pot smoker before she gave me that Rx for anti depressants
One man's meat another's poison
no idea what meds you are on
and I don't want to know.

It is also well known for effexor rage. That is what I meant about not worrying about you because you got a Zen Practice going which I did not. Then also I am not sure what the combination of the SSRI and the pot contributed to my cut tendon. I suppose I should google that too.
Moving on.
That was quite a dream Kurt.
Segway into Freud's Interpretation of Dreams.
Have you ever had a college professor that was like an angel from heaven. Who loved to teach, loved his subject.
I had a French professor like that. He taught me to translate Camus. He also would talk about how much he loved Freud's Interpretation of Dreams. Which was kind of what this thread was about. I have never read that book and I don't plan to, maybe I would if I was waking up with the cold sweats.
I would rather read Kerouac's dream book. Freud said where ever he went in his thought experiments a poet had been there first.
I decided to go with the bitter herbs instead of the pills. "one man's meat is another's poison"
