Eight Plans for Oh Eight

Post by Doreen Peri » December 31st, 2007, 9:50 pm

I don't do resolutions. I do plans.

And since the universe has decided to name this year after Studio Eight (how nice of the universe, huh? ;)), I thought it would be a good idea to share our plans with each other.

2008 will be a gr8 year! I can feel it! How are you planning to make it great? Have any plans?

List 8 things you plan to do this coming year... not resolutions, plans.

Oh and if you don't actually do them, it's OK. We won't hold you to it. ;)

OK, I'll go first.

1- the first thing I'm going to do is to make sure the new years banner clearly says "studio 2oo8" which apparently it doesn't now, even though I can see it 'cause others can't see the 200 part. :) I'll fix it tomorrow or make a new one.

2- In 2008, I'm going to take a class. Drawing maybe. Painting maybe. Something. I donno yet. But I'm planning on doing it.

3- I'm going to finish getting my online portfolio and print portfolio ready to share with prospective employers. I'm only about 1/4 of the way finished with both. I may have to finish these projects in the first month or two of 2008.

4- I'm going to try to figure out how to come up with the money to buy everybody who contributed to the "Infinite Tide" book a book and send it to them. That's 30 contributors x $14 (my cost) for the books which comes to $420. If anybody wants to help me figure out how to do this, I'd be grateful. I've already invested over $400 in the project with all the proofs I had to buy before I got it right but I really don't think I should have published anybody's material without having the funds to give them a book so in 2008 I want to rectify that. Contributions welcome. (when the new site launches we'll have a paypal button)

5- I'm going to go swimming and work out at the gym way more often than in 2007, though in the first half of 2007, it was a habit and was great! So, my plan is to get that lifestyle back! The second half of 2007 got all fucked up but that's the way years go sometimes. In 2008, I'm going to do better with that lifestyle thing.

6- I'm going to organize my writings, remove the lousy shit from my computer so that when I die, people don't read it and say, "She wrote THAT? Well no wonder nobody knows who she is. She sucks!"

7- In 2008, I'm going to buy a new car (er, new to me.. a used car).. because my car is dying on me.

8- I'm going to finish getting my kitchen renovated somehow despite the theft, and get the hall bath fixed up and paint the pictures I need to paint to fill the walls which I've made bare because it was time to start over.

And that's it for my reflection. I will come back and read these over and edit them to fit what I really CAN do this coming year. ;) Looking forward to yours. Wish mine were more literarily interesting and humorous but hey, that's something I need to work on in 2008 and there were only room for 8, not 9, since that was the plan of the post but if there WERE a #9, I'd choose to be a better writer and more humorous, too, just to amuse you all.

:)

Your turn. Got 8?

I'll be next to wish everyone a very merry new year. I can only expect great things from Studio Eight in '08. As for my plans (I'll try for eight, but I'm doubtful):

1. I don't plan to, but will quit smoking cigarettes. (When the choice is between the pleasures of tobacco and the pleasures of being alive, well, stomach cancer is no way to die.)
2. Not only will I get a new job, I will keep it for a significant period of time.
3. Be more trustful, and consequently friendlier.
4. Quit all habitual drug use. I don't need it anymore.
5. Get to Egypt, and at the very least Europe.
6. No more eviction notices!
7. Finally finish Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu.
8. Perhaps a serious relationship for a change?

I guess I have more plans than I realized.

P.S. Doreen, I see the 200 part. Perhaps you already fixed it though.

I just need to get a little stronger. That would be good.

Oh, well that, and finally learn how to publish. That would be good too..

Oh, and I need to help more, and do more, and do more to help.. can't let some draining career get in the way, that's for sure.

Oh, and I plan to get back in shape, said the half a-billion or so annually, simultaneously.. I really do. That would be good.

boho - good list. I like the way you plan :)

mnaz - you seem plenty strong to me but you know better than i do, I guess. If you need help with that publishing thing, as I said in a message I sent you, send me the file and I'll see how I can help. Speaking of help... I could use some help myself. I think I'll revise my list. ;)

arcadia - what's a dojo? Gotta go to the translator site to look that up. I like your list! What fine plans you have! :)

Lightning Rod - Those aren't plans, those are fantasies. You know what happens when you don't plan and you only fantasize? Nothing. :) I guess survival isn't a fantasy, it's a goal, but it's not a plan.

e-dog- hehe ;)

Artguy - Good resolution. But what are your plans? :)

1. Find the perfect health insurance plan... and if it doesn't exist, create one.
2. Become a social butterfly.--- No wait, that sounds like a resolution. Uhm... I'll think of a better #2 later.
3. Finally finish the book I've been writing for the last 4 years, get it published and in doing so become the literary mogul the likes of which JK Rowling has never seen.
4. Get TiVo. It may not sound like a plan but it is. Trust me. It is.
5. Ensure the presidency of Barack Obama and then become the official White House spokesperson.
6. Get into and then own a magnificent house.
7. Launch a worldwide video site and dominate the hell out of youtube and yahoo.
8. Get a better and more powerful.

I'll have to get back to you on the 2nd one later. My brain hurt from all my plan-creating.
sometimes I just like to breathe.

doreen: a dojo is a place where you do nothing planned except to sit, breath, walk a little, bow and recite a sutras for more or less an hour. I´m a perfectionist-lazy so for now it´s a good place for me in tiny dosis

Gonna get a job in Olympia, move there and put down some roots, see my daughter more, continue on my path of healthier living, authenticity, pursuing musical options, and becoming more open to love again.
Hallelujah.
Amen.

hmmm...let's see...

*gnaws knuckles*

1. Improve my fat to muscle ratio.
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables...the uncooked, unprocessed kind.
3. Write something epic that he will love and I can be proud of.
4. Stop crying in my Coolers and just drink them instead.
5. Keep smilin'...there's enough frickin' sadness.
6. Enjoy each day as it comes and try to ignore spoilers.
7. Weep with joy at some pulpy fiction in which I am the heroine.
8. Stop acting as if I've got it all together and finally collapse into a heap of wonder and lust at all the phenotypical amorphics.

and nine

9. Try not to be so self absorbed. Sopping up my own sponginess.
I used to walk with my head in the clouds but I kept getting struck by lightning!
Now my head twitches and I drool alot. Anonymouse

If you need help with that publishing...
Thanks Doreen. Had a coupla beers with some friends at a nearby Irish pub recently, and one of them suggested "Self publishing for Dummies". Not a bad idea. I think I'll google it.

Btw, finally just getting around to ordering "Infinite Tide"... just been a little swamped the last eight or ten weeks...
