Poetry in Baltimore 3rd Anniversary party = last night

Post by Doreen Peri » April 19th, 2008, 8:15 pm

The Baltimore party was wonderful! It was the 3rd Anniversary for the Poetry in Baltimore website. The event was held at the Load of Fun Gallery.

I met a lot of talented poets, including our very own Constantine (whose performance was really good!), and Terri (whose reading I unfortunately missed because I was late because it took me 3-1/2 hours to get there and it should have only been an hour and a half! The traffic was a nightmare!)

It was great to meet them both and to see Wireman who's Raga Celtic band opened the show. It was great!

I also met theirishsea (Dan) from Arcanum Cafe, saw (Steve) from Poetry in Baltimore and one other PIB poet - Chris George. It was wonderful to meet these fine poets!

The performances were varied .... all very good .... a wide variety of styles. I enjoyed myself very much. Nobody threw tomatoes at me or fruit or anything and they were kind enough to applaud after I did my thing, so that was a plus.

Julie who runs the Poetry in Baltimore site, is a wonderful lady and she threw a terrific party! I was honored and grateful to be part of the event.

I have some photos but need to get them off my camera. Will try to get them posted later.

thank you, Dor - you know i've been dying to know.
so you met a bunch of great poets!
so, you didn't collect any thrown fruit (good for the complexion, bad for the ego)
and so traffic was horrific - how awful.

But so glad you pilgrimaged over to the Baltimore locus of word-sound. Looking forward to looking at the shots you shot.

I'm glad I went, too, judih. Further convincing myself I need to start something. Studio Eight LIVE! Just need a backer. Know any angels? ;)

Will post a few photos soon. :)

I was in my element.

Lots of talent there and I wasn't even shakin. ;) heh
Was fun!

"Just do it" ... yeah.. wish it was that easy
gonna get my nikes on, slide on down the slip-slidin
greasy road to wherever 'cause it's an endeavor
i been plannin for years....
i ain't afraid, brotha.. i have no fears
of creation ... just gotta pay the mortgage, yanno?
if i were a lone soul without a child to rear,
i'd just get out there and GO!
but gotta figure out how to pay our way
while makin a new venue....
how am i gonna do that?
(to my own self be true?)

__________
btw, clay and i were looking in shepherdstown..... was part of the dream that never happened... cool college town

there is the alternative of moving into existing places
like cafe nola here in fredROCK where i do my wired act presently......sowebo arts in bawlmer
funks democratic coffee house in fells point and when i did do my own gallery thang it was a blast back in '01-'02.....you were there once upon a time
before the rollercoaster rides started....i guess the point is just find an audience and do it.....60's comin' fast>>>>>>>> :D

The dream is more than that.

Studio Eight LIVE is a place that has art teachers, art classes, drama productions, a music studio, musical productions, cabaret type events, poetry workshops, poetry performances, a cafe, a little store.... you get the idea.

I've been writing about this dream for years.... it used to be my litkicks profile... and i've had the dream way before that

if i could find an existing to *start* it, it would be great!

But it's not just about performing my own poetry. It's about creating a space where artists of all genres can come and work on what they love to do and collaborate with each other.

(like here online.... only... in person..)

I want to make such a spot because I can't find such a spot to go and enjoy. So, if it isn't there? I guess I'll have to make ir, right?

The only problem is money. It takes money to do something like that. If I give my time to it, I won't have time to work to make money to pay the mortgage.

It's a conundrum.

sighhhh
