Thanks, Ronnie. Yes, I'm fine. All we got was a whole lot of rain.

The photos just blew me away! My heart goes out to all those people in Suffolk and the Hampton Roads area. It's south of me about 3 hours by car.

I'm concerned about Sober Duck. He lives near there.

Does anybody keep in touch with Sober Duck? If so, have you heard from him?

I'm going to find his email address and write him today. I don't have a ph #.

qutting the ciggs has caused insomnia so i am up watching the 5am news. i saw the footage and was awe struck. that thing was enormous. is it just me, or is tornado activity very very rare in virginia? just another sign of the apocolypse. or global something or other.

glad you're well Doreen.

Yeah Ronnie, this is very rare. This isn't Kansas. (Toto, we're not in Kansas any more)

I was thinking along the same lines with all the very strange weather we've had all over the world recently.

It rained for almost a week and I have a flood on the side of the house and was making jokes about always wanting waterfront property. My joke is so lame now. Man, I have nothing to complain about!

Yes, Judih when I hear from Dick (Duck), will let everyone know.

i read recently in the local paper that there have been 106....yes, 106 small earthquakes off the coast of oregon in the last few months. i will see if i can find something online about it.

deneses sister goes to school in reno. she called today talking about a five point something that woke her up this morning. sge says tremors having been hitting reno on a spooky like regular basis as of late.

we could probably go one with incidents like this and fill 20 pages of replies.

Yeah I hope SD is fine. Had an earthquake here in Madison or should I say icequake. When the big lake called Mendota freezes up. The ice will move just enough towards the shore line to cause a rare rumble of sorts. Those who were affected by it said it lasted for about five seconds. No damage had occurred but that was an experience I'm sure. There was also a earthquake down in Illinois just last week. It registered low but no damage. Yeah tornado season will be starting up here in my area in about a couple of months.

YES!

I heard from Richard (Sober Duck)! He's fine! It hit 40 miles from him, he said. Whew!

He was trying to post a message here but for some reason can't post so I'm going to try to help him figure out what's wrong so he can come and post to this thread, too.

I'm OK

Post by Sober Duck » April 30th, 2008, 9:03 pm

Damn!!!!! My log-in took for the first time in a year!!! Been having a time logging in. Yes I'm OK and everyone here in Gloucester is OK too. We missed the bad weather by inches. Our tornado was only an F-0 (65 to 85 mile winds). A few trees were up-rooted and structure damage was minor but our neighbors to the south took a beating. Poor Suffolk, unbelievable. Luckily that tornado hit forty miles away from here.
The east coast of Virginia is no stranger to tornados, we have our share but usually they are weak, nothing like what went through Suffolk Monday. I photographed a tornado in Hartfield, a few miles north of here two years ago and posted that photo here on visual arts. We have several small tornados or water spouts each year but this storm was the perfect storm, very scary! Thanks to the media and don't get me wrong, their warning was a god send but watching the storms destruction on the television and seeing it's direction heading right for us was quite unsettling. Thank god it weakened before it reached us.
So for every one who was concerned, I want to thank you for worring about this Sober Duck but Ducks can weather the worst of storms.
