all the images rotate around a workman not having access to his tools

your Charlie Parker reference... he pawned his horn to buy more junk. his drugs became more of his tool than his horn. uncool. he died at 34, looking 50 yrs old.

((i gotta say this piece has certainly generated some kinda discussion))
charlie parker said, "I never said this stuff makes me play better, it just makes me FEEL better."

no, his horn was his tool

the junk was just his fuel

"it is a lament for not having what you NEED [in order to be able to] do what you need to do ..."

Yeah well the purpose of editing is to make the text clearer. And if that takes adding more words? It takes adding more words. ;)

dor'... thanks for helping out me out. surely i couldn't be the only one unsure of that line..?

junk might have been the fuel but seeing where it led him, it appears to have become his tool while his horn became the fuel to buy more junk. some stories about his problem was that he'd show up for a gig without his horn. as you know, junk changes one's priorities and necessities to the point of needing junk just to be 'normal.'

good poem, eLRod.

A cracked prophet high from eating bees
instead of waiting for the honey
That is the best metaphor of the week, in my opinion

a bee hive dripping honey
a metaphor
for a vagina
I have read

but just as easliy be a heart
I would trade your scars
for my unblemished skin
just to have been there too.

No idea what year this is, 2008 I think
but it is the spring of my content
that much is for sure

You had it coming clay I suppose
that is the way it goes
the fuckee becomes the fuckor
I don't believe non of this shit
I think it is schtick
you probably rehearse it

but you know
it is all grist
for the writer's
pen
mixed metaphors
cliches
and literal interpretations
my forte

because after all
this is not about
you
it is always about me
and how the world unfolds
for me.

is it time to say
Hi Jack
sorry

Hmmm... eating bees instead of waiting for the honey. Cracked prophet. heh.... shaking my head. I still don't get it. I don't get the metaphor. What's it a metaphor of ? It's a metaphor referring to a vagina? What exactly IS a "cracked prophet"? Bennie thinks the prophet is a poet. Clay says "cracked" doesn't mean anything, it's just percussion.

OK Jack. Your turn. You say it's the best metaphor of the week. Well, 'splain it to me lucy ... er jack... (sorry too much "I love lucy" growing up. ha)

A metaphor is like an analogy. It has to stand for something. If the bee hive dripping honey is a vagina and the cracked prophet is a percussive poet, then what's the eating bees part?

A poet who can't wait for vagina "eats bees" instead for the love of lust since he has to do what he has to do?

Oh my! Is it what I think it is? I never heard that called "eating bees" before!

:? :D

ok, since I've already broken my 'no explanations' rule I'll compound the offense here:
the eating bees line was inspired by an imaginary image of John the Baptist who was certainly a cracked prophet and as bennie aptly said John the Baptist was a poet in the sense that he screamed in the wilderness. He also lived on insects and honey. So, that's the provenance of the line. But the other interpretations have been very amusing.

Doreen I live for your questions
truly

I will try to explain
what ever that means

Bennie nailed the metaphor of the bees

I could not do any better
there
think about this

your mouth is full of bees
they are stinging the hell out of your tongue, your cheeks, the roof of your mouth, they are stinging the back side of your lips, your gums, the pain is unbearable, hot white and intense, but you keep right on chewing.
I am a literal kind of guy, a word kook, have you thought about what it means, the words I mean, have you filled your mouth with bees and tried to imagine the pain? The bees crunching between your teeth.

I mean are you reading the words from some abstract heights of intelectual indifference,
read the words literaly, fuck metaphors.

the vagina had nothing to do with anything, I am just a crazy old full, I was thinking about some buddhist thing jimboloco commented on about the heart of compassion dripping honey,

stop thinking about it
stop being analytical
fill your mouth with bees
and chew.

not getting it
is a way of zen
it is called the way of not getting it

that is why women can't do zen.
listen to me doreen
I get einstein
I get wittgenstein
I get quantum mechanics
I get everything but women

I will look for that women's zen center that posted the bit about women not being able to be zen masters or what ever you call it if you want me too.

I never heard that called "eating bees" before!

chewing on bees is one hell of a metaphor to me
for bearing any burden
enduring any pain

it must be a guy thing.
here is another random quote which has probably nothing to do with anything but it is just about bees
There is a sound adage which runs: Where a man's treasure lies, there lies his heart" Our treasure lies in the beehives of our knowledge. We are perpetually on the way thither, being by nature winged insects and honey gathers of he mind. The only thing that lies close to our heart is the desire to bring something home to the hive.
Erma Bombeck

you are asking the wrong peson to explain it
ask a poet
Bennie did an excellent job of doing that

I think I am going to get stoned again
thanks for asking
doreen
I wish I could give you a better answer
the vagina thing got nothing to do with anything
please don't mix that up with clay's poem
that is from my own sexual immaturity
