Go ahead. Talk about it.

I just read a poem on our 'sister site', litkicks
it was a good poem
fit all the forms
but the form was so overpowering that I was distracted from the poem
the rhythm and rhyme patterns were predictable and pedantic. Lock step.
It beat you over the head with form
I want the meaning of my poems to be the dominant thing
I want you to see the pictures and smell the smells
I want the structure or the form to be almost invisible. maybe completely invisible.

If we make puzzles from our poems
if we write them by template
try to fit them into forms, unless those forms are useful
then we will be the robots that poets should swear nev

I want to invent new forms, not follow old ones
I hope nobody feels obligated to copy mine.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Since when is litkicks our sister site? Well, maybe in a dysfunctional family sorta way.

And Lightning Rod? I sincerely believe you've missed the whole point. :)

how did I know that you would object to the 'sister site' remark?

I don't know how I'm missing the point, doreen
I simply disagree with you on this.
You think that form is more important than meaning and I think the opposite.
A poem that doesn't tell you something about life is worthless no matter how perfect the form is.
In my mind it's a principle of poetry the same as it is a principle of arcitecture--form follows function.

"talking about music is like dancing about architecture"
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

You missed the point because I don't think form is the most important thing. I never said that. Where you got that idea is beyond me.

You've totally misunderstood and misinterpreted my statements.

Scroll back.

I don't need to repeat it. It's all there.

To deny the validity of forms such as sonnets and villanelles and haiku and other structured verse is simply ignorant.

But I certainly never said form is the most important thing.

Hell, I've been a free verse poet for many years. Haven't you read any of my work?

I rarely write the forms.

I rarely play scales on the piano either. But it's really important to do that in order to work on my craft. So I best get back to it.

Have a nice day!

(oh and why do you purposely say shit that you "know I would object to"? Just for fun? Whoopeeee!.... this was a rhetorical question. No need to answer it. Obviously Litkicks is not a "sister site" to Studio Eight. The owners don't like me much and haven't spoken to me for years! I don't think they want anything to do with us! LOL... so, knowing that, it was a pretty ridiculous remark, don't you think?)

This is a very good example why our personal relationship was destined to fail. There's a total and complete lack of communication. And you insist on stating that I said things I didn't say and believe things I don't believe. Why? Just to start an argument?

I hate arguing. I'm not going to do it.

Gotta go out. See ya around. Please stop putting words in my mouth.
