The Wisdom of the Lumberjack

Post by saw » May 25th, 2008, 8:34 pm

anyone can fell a tree,
but can you keep the tree
from killing you ?
Trees don't always fall
exactly where you intend,
sometimes they bounce
off a neighboring branch.
If you are standing too close
you could be injured...or worse.
Always consider the wind,
the lean and the balance.
If the kerf is closing up
instead of getting larger,
you have misjudged the balance.
Do not keep sawing in the hope
the tree will change its mind...
trees, never change their minds.
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

"trees, never change their minds."

I appreciate that line. It's something too many people ignore, willingly. Life would drastically improve if more people actually accepted that. There is a reason the old original Americans called trees the tall people. They've gotta be the smartest things going... imagine standing in one spot all your life and getting everything you need to live, sometimes hundreds of years. Never fucking moving! Just swaying like grass in the winds. Wonderful!

Good read, saw. TY ;)

Indeed. Trees and gravity.

thanx, mtmynd and mnaz....my intention was twofold with this one..
one...to honor the majesty of trees, the great service they provide,
and the sadness when they are cut indiscriminately.....
and two..the poem as metaphor, to express the dangers of being
closed minded....
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
