Ruins
The lark sings a sad song
As December wind whistles over volcanic ash
Dreams come fleetingly now
A whisper, a shadow then nothing
The sun of truth is so bright my mind dilates
The barren branches reach out to comfort me
But my emptiness is complete
Swallows return to San Juan Capistrano every year
I hear they fly thousands of miles from South America
But I have never left these ghostly ruins
To hear their songs of joy
Once I set out for an endless journey of life
Now I wander in nomadic bliss
Seeking oblivion in the caverns of my mind
The corpuscles of my blood cry to heaven
For release from the cycle of death and rebirth
But their cries fall on deaf ears
Only the moaning wind is heard
And the purple sunset echoes my lost vision
Of what life could be
As December wind whistles over volcanic ash
Dreams come fleetingly now
A whisper, a shadow then nothing
The sun of truth is so bright my mind dilates
The barren branches reach out to comfort me
But my emptiness is complete
Swallows return to San Juan Capistrano every year

hey gm... there is a yellow flower growing out of your right pit...and summer has finally come so all the windows are open around here now & when i get up in the morning on my way to turn on the coffee i stop at each open window and shout out "Hello!" no one has answered yet but i know they can hear me...this morning i shouted out at each window "READ THE POEM ABOUT THE RUINS!"...and then i said "HELLO!"...then "BLUE GLASS BOTTLES CAST BLUE GLASS SHADOWS"...but i think my neighbors must all be sleeping & that i am the only one awake around here...except for the crows who come to my window and say "Did ya notice the yellow flower growing out of gm's right pit?"
"For the first time this very morning" i answer then we sing together,
"o we pass this way then we pass away"...last week one of the crows ate my lizard but i wasn't angry, besides, the lizard was expecting it,the day before it happened he said,"ya know, one of these days one of these crows is going to eat me for lunch" i told him to just keep his eyes open, "its not gonna change a thing" he replied.

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Lightning Rod, I've never been to that mission. I'm glad you liked my bleak meditation. It feels good to dip into darkness once in a while.
The mingo, your reply was lyrically hallucinogenic in power. I'm impressed and most honored that you appended that to my humble poem. The ending rang true to me as well. Keeping one's eyes open may not make a bit of difference.
