El Macho

Post by saw » June 10th, 2008, 7:16 am

He was tough.
Cagney tough, Bogart tough...
rolled into one tough,
Marine tough,
Green Beret tough....
rough as the sands of Iwo Jima...
nail tough, cheapsteak tough,
badder than Leroy Brown
walking taller than Buford Pusser
with his baseball bat tough....

He had the swagger,
no one had the guts to call
a swish.

In the shadow of the Rio Bravo
on a lonesome dusty trail,
the man in the black pants,
black shirt with black buttons
wearing a black ten gallon hat
riding a black rustled horse,
told the Duke,
he was aimin' to shoot his dog.

John Wayne
took a long slow breath,
calmly cocked
his Winchester and said
to the black-hearted cowboy,
"Well mister, a man oughta
do what he thinks is best."
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

was he? I have a western escotoma: the nearest thing I saw like that were El gran chaparral, Valle de pasiones, Bonanza, David Carradine as Kung-Fu (all series) and western-spaghettis...

Saw I love this homage to an icon of Americana. You did it well.

thanx fer the feedbag...i mean feedback...yea, whether or not you
liked the John Wayne schtick or not, he was the movie industry's
representative for a tough guy.....and in the flix he had more jobs
than Elvis...but of course Elvis was more of a lover than a fighter...
Elvis' hair never got mussed up, even as Kid Galahad.....hell, Elvis
dove off the cliffs of Acapulco, a 90 ft. plunge, popped up out
of the water with perfect hair.....now, The Duke woulda called that
sissified.....ha
