se necesitaron canciones
(más que una estatua)
para materializar al padre mítico
viento frío
colores al lado del río
sol de otoño
songs were needed
(more than a statue)
to materialize the mythic father
cold wind
colors by the river
autumn sun

l-rod: (jaja...!!!). I didn´t see the statue yet, the bronze-thing is kinda thrilling but I guess the keys donated by the people will warm him somehow. I promise photos!
constantine: I think the cuban revolution was important at that moment but I confess I know very little about Che´s theoric contributions to marxism. There were a lot of conferences and actos from the 13th of june until yesterday here around the Che´s presencia/ausencia. Their friends, sons and daughter, musicians and lots of people (specially very young), different parties and organizations came here to camp during the weekend and do an homenaje to him. I read funny stories during these days from his close ones and people who study his life and obra: "if Che´s were still alive he will be in front of a Pentium IV being a Chavez asesor and bothering him constantly"..."Che was borned in May 14th really... her mother was pregnant before her wedding, she came here to give birth him and told then he was a sietemesino.." . Lots of relatos, lots of anécdotas. I was busy with my personal story somehow during these days but I was yesterday during a couple of hours in the concert in his memory (Viglietti, unknown-by-me-cuban-trovadors, Juan Carlos Baglietto segment).
I´ll post photos later!

the concert was in the park between the Flag Memorial and the river
Paraná, in a peaceful afternoon so far from the Cuban Revolution...

our phallic monument needs a turn
... sorry, photobucket was slow

flags

books, pins, t-shirts

uruguayan ´s cantautor Daniel Viglietti in the scenario (first time I listened directly to him!). He dedicated Jara´s song "A desalambrar" to our country... and he sounded serious about it...

you can see Viglietti singing here but in 1983 to nicaraguan people with english subtitulado:

Juan Carlos Baglietto ended his set of songs with Fito Páez "Tratando de crecer" . I love that song, here´s a 1989 version of it where Baglietto still had a Guevara look but with a mimo touch:

the red star scenario beggining to shine...

they said the concert ended with León Gieco singing that beautiful song(here in Silvio Rodriguez version with a great slide of photos):

I am trying to think of someone like Che in North America, maybe Malcom X.
Emma Goldman maybe.
Thanks for giving me something to think about besides the current occupant of the white house.
Thanks for the pictures

interesting fotos, 'V'... Che became bigger than life in his short lived experience. i imagine that name is known worldwide. it's great that there in Rosario his memory is re-established. is this a yearly event?
a story: SooZen and I were doing one of our tent shows last fall. A young teenage boy and his girlfriend came into our tent and were looking at our things when i noticed the man's tee shirt - it had a Che image on the front.
Being so young I thought I'd ask him if he knew who the image was?
"Che Guevara.." he replied.
"Do you know where he was from?" i asked...
"Argentina."
"Yes... from Rosario..."
He nodded his head in agreement. He knew more than I thought he would about Che.
Si! He is a legend still after all these years.

hi cecil: no, it isn´t yearly, or yeah it is but in minor scale. This time was organized specially by the city government and the Solidarity to Cuba people here. And yeah, his memory still hits somewhere in the collective mind aspiration of lot of people -specially young- for a better and more just world. I found him & his story charming and very valuable somehow but at the same time I´m just tired about fusiles, uniformes & heroes... that´s a problem here sometimes... Thanks for your anécdota around the Che and great that you enjoyed the photos!!!!!
