Ode to a Rolling Tennis Shoe
I invented the wheel, but I never thought
to put it on a tennis shoe
there are limits to creativity
I stand on the shoulders of cavemen
anything that can slide can roll
it's the theory of the wheel, but a tennis shoe?
the first time I saw a kid gliding by on his heel
it was in a grocery store....gotta get me a pair of those
who am I kidding? a simple recipe for a broken hip
think I'll just re-invent the wheel instead
to put it on a tennis shoe

jack,
When I go to the grocery store up on Forest Lane
which is a busy street,
I always see three or four people in those little wheelchair Hummers
they are boldly crossing the street and whizzing around the parking lot
I wondered why there were so many of them
last week I was entering the store and a couple of old timers in their hot rods were talking. I walked up to them and said, "What is this? A NASCAR convention?"
Of course they looked at me like I was crazy. But my smile has a way of defusing those situations. We talked for a few minutes. They told me that there was a disabled person's assisted living facility up the street. I told them that I would probably see them there soon. Those chairs go much faster than I can walk.
