Mr D's Confession

Post by saw » June 25th, 2008, 6:47 am

Dylan told me that Jerry Garcia
could always hear the song
in all of his bad recordings,
the song buried deep inside.

He told me the reason he likes books is,
there is no noise inside them,
that the tone isn't apparent, that no one
is going to have to turn this one up louder.

He told me more people have seen the Mona Lisa
than have ever listened to Michael Jackson
and only three people can see her at once.
He told me his records weren't artistic,

they were documentation, songs are in my genes.
I can't stop them from spilling out,
it goes back to the ten hundreds
when people roamed the earth with one name.

The Duke Ellington Band was one man's vision.
The Lois Armstrong Band was Louie's individual voice.
Rhythm and Blues, rockabilly, all that stuff
is one man crying in the wilderness.

It's a lost form of art to not conform, he said.
Where are the Patsy Clines, the Platos',
the Socrates, the Whitmans and Emersons?
Look, everything I've done, was for myself,

I didn't want to be forgotten.
I don't have a team of astrologers
telling what's going to happen next,
I just make one move after the other,

this leads to that.
I don't like to make records
he confided in me,
I do it with great reluctance.
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Dylan has always been good at confiding in people.

Joan Baez confided in me some of what Dylan had confided in her. Wow. Some of the stories I could tell you..! As soon as I can confide in you, saw. ;)

Thx! Enjoyed.

You saw...
Hearing the song thru its own noise is artistic.
No one really likes to make records, I imagine.
Too much like one man crying in the wilderness..

Thanks.
