emel_scott, the gradations are considered and not taken lightly despite the simpleness in which the structure presents itself... although it would be foolish to intone that structure was all there was within the full context of this piece. the knowing eye, as you certainly possess, will note that the gradations of which you speak are fundamentally only 'footsteps' upon a much greater journey which quietly reveals itself minutes after the first reading (in most cases).

Black is full saturation. White is empty potential. White is full light. Black is empty space.

Between these poles flow creation and cosmos. Or something like that.

(And it's not all black and white).

it's all yin/yang... the grand duality in which balance is never a given but an attained, over and over again and again. it's called life as we know it.
