Balancing the love equation
You can only balance the love equation by
multiplying the common denominator (you)
by all factors on each side of the equal sign,
then devide the quotient by zero because
zero divided into anything is nothing at all
which is the most important part to be included
because without nothing you cannot appreciate
something or anything for that matter,
Which is why love can't be balanced with infinity
since nothing lasts forever except nothing and
this is why I advice young lovers to take up physics
rather than math because physics encompasses math
and once the physics is gone, you can move on through
the equation until each side equals the other and accept
it for what it was.
Solved. Over.
Start again with a new equation,
algebraically of course, factoring in
the fact that you may never get the
X's and Y's to become constants.
There are no rational numbers
when it comes to love, only variables
and coefficients.
Move on to geometry if you must.

yes, higher math is much simpler than arithmetic
arithmetic is rote rules, it is procedure (learn your times tables)
algebra and the calculus are much more elegant and simple
when you really get to the heart of things, it's simpler
but I know that you prefer to complicate things, doreen

I don't know math; I don't know physics; I was one of those mathophobes who thought her brain was only wired to what they called "the humanities".
Turns out there are some great metaphors from math and the sciences.
The poem refers to physics, and geometry, and the metaphor works, and is consistent; I say "Huh?", too. What do you want from a poem? I heard references to stuff outside the metaphor, there are other connotations here, as in "once the physics is gone", which I read as "once the physical is gone", and the line about coefficients, which might reference codependency...and then I also like it because it doesn't stick TOO close to the metaphor, and get hung up.
Oh, hell--I liked this, that's all.

Sometimes (and this is unfortunate), 1 + 1 = As many as possible + as few as possible
That is, sometimes the 1 on the left, tries to increase its value to the highest possible number while reducing the value of the 1 on the right to as little as possible, preferably less than ZERO.
By doing this, the 1 on the left is assuming the the equation will equal out but it doesn't work, because the 1 on the left is really not interested in an equal equation. This type of arithmetic never works out because any 1 that is continually reduced to the negative gets fucking pissed off and won't allow it any more!
That, my friend, is the arithmetic.
