that is one interpretation of the poem. a political slant - metaphor of imperialism, fascistic tendencies could be another, animal abuse - one more. i play around, but basically i have serious motives in my poetry.

This is how I interpreted it.... ;) Seemed a description of a rapist situation.... a man dominating a woman, tying her up and beating her with leather.

Was just playing around with the "yikes" and "cya" stuff to illustrate that the poem was effective.

I can see how it could be interpreted in several different ways.

well, i tell you doreen -my first take on it was sexual dominance - then political dominance - then across the board dominance. the rational mind has to catch up with the subconscious sometimes - almost all the time. it's a swirling nebula - creativity, and personality.

Exactly.

Plus, you're not required to know what it means or to explain what you wanted it to mean. You're the poet.

It's up to the reader to interpret it. :)

Interpretations can be as many as the number of readers who read the poem.

That's my take on it.

true. the nice thing about the forum is it provides the reader and the author an immediate connection - you don't get that in print - it's largely anonymous. usually i don't interpret for the reader, but i enjoy giving my take on it at times. considering the nature of the piece - the overt nature - i thought i'd steer a little bit.
