ha. it's Gaelic. I have trouble with a lot of the words. Stob Dubh is pronounces "stop doo" and means black or dark peak. apparently (so stewart, one of my climbing buddies, has told me) there are many "black peaks" in scotland and so you have to give the full name. Buachaille Etive Beag means "little shepherd of Etive". Etive as in Glen Etive which is on the other side of the mountain from glencoe. Buachaille Etive Beag is pronounced "boo-cul etiv beg", it's known by climbers as "the wee buachaille" because there is another right along side it called "buachaille etive mor", which means the big shepard of etive.
the name of the mountain we climbed last sunday is Buachaille Etive Beag and stob dubh is the highest peak (of two) on that mountain. we were going to climb both of them (to claim 2 munros. munros are the highest mountains in scotland. mountains over 3000 feet are classed so) but john has trouble with his metatarsal and it was really hurting him on the descent so we called it a day at one.

if my geography is correct, and i think it is, the peak we climbed is the snowy peak on the right in this photo.
I think THE buachaille is our next challenge. ha. lesson over. I just meant to give you the pronunciation of the words.
somehow a more gothic version, no representation at all about the green-blue mountains. It seems I had reserved the green and the nature only for Ireland!!!!
