One of the 1,809 Still Missing ...

Post by abcrystcats » January 8th, 2005, 3:48 pm

OK, I confess that I am looking for some emotional support.

My ex-husband spent his vacation in Kerala with his mother and sister. They live in one of the districts that was hit.

I have heard nothing. I called his closest friends in Santa Clara County. Although they have been watching his house, they have heard nothing. They expected him back by now, but they did not have an exact flight number or date of arrival.

I called the State Department and they have called me back several times to follow up, but they know nothing. On the last call, I was somewhat alarmed when they called him "Dr." Menon. I never bothered to give the State Department his title or degree, although I gave them his mother's home address in India, birthdate, and just about everything else I could think of. That means they know who I am talking about and have researched it.

There were 28,000 unaccounted Americans at the start of this thing; now there are only 1,809 by today's headlines, and he is one of them. I am starting to get pretty nervous about this ...
If do not hear from him soon, I don't know what I am going to do.
He HAS to be back by Wednesday because that's when he needs to start teaching again.

Damn. Only one thing you can do: Sit yourself down and work up a full-blown Elegy:

"Woe! Alimony, thou hast sunk!

I have no alimony, or any financial support from him.

Another Po' Boy, eh. He must have possessed other, admirable attributes that you covet then, Mizz Abski? A certain fullness of manhood, centaurian qualities perhaps, a veritable Apollo now full fathom fifteen lies, his bones with coral made......

My consolations go out to you and yours, sis, really.

Let's put it this way: I consider him a close friend. So does my family, and they have been calling me daily to find out if I've heard from him yet.

I called the State Department again. They have correctly identified him, and do indeed know more about him than I told them over the phone, but they have no news for me and he is still listed missing.

"Full fathom five thy father lies
Of his bones are coral made
Those are pearls that were his eyes
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell
Hark! I hear them now
Ding, dong, bell"

Uh oh.

I'm so sorry to hear he's missing, Cat!

Please keep us posted when you hear something, OK?

:(

(((hugs)))
