cyclades

Post by constantine » August 15th, 2008, 10:56 pm

Now, at last the silence is yours.
Never to hear the waves, as they stroke
The tempo - heartbeat of Poseidon,
Upon the pebbled shores of Naxos.

All erode with time.
Smooth, what were once edges,
Calm against the tidal surge.
The tempests of both God and man
Clang like spear points against the hollow bronze.

Here, you lie with arms folded.
Here, you are one with the silence, the shadows
Of sons and daughters - the endless procession.
They will mourn, then forget... and mourn again.

thanks theda and perdida. i was in the dayton art institute in the antiquities room looking at a marble stylized funereal votive figure from the cyclades islands in the aegean. dated around 2500bc. they look like modern sculpture - reminded me a little of a jawlenski head.
