Washington Lakes

Post by Shem » August 16th, 2008, 2:06 am

I’ve always been drawn to water, the high peaks are beautiful, beautiful beyond the mere reach of words, but there is something about a high mountain lake that calms the nerves and stills the mind….

Unice Lake, snow still in August!

One of the many seasonal ponds in these climes, with Rainier in the background.

Ah, Dewey lake! Just far enough to discourage the "tourist" but near enough to hike to at dusk.

Soon I shall venture a few miles farther north, to the realms of Snyder and Kerouac ala Earth House Hold and Dharma Bums. The first time I read On the Road I had recently moved to Washington via California and Colorado (Castle Rock, my home town even makes a brief appearance!) The more I read of Kerouac and the beats the more I realized I had found my people, but once I discovered Mr. Gary Snyder, well, there it is, eh?
Leave the letter that never begins to go find the latter that ever comes to end, written in smoke and blurred by mist and signed of solitude, sealed of night.

beautiful areas, shem, and the very best way 'to shoot' them.

(curious how we use the expression 'shoot' or even 'take' for capturing stilled moments in photos...)
