McCain Is NOT a Republican - He Said So Himself!

Post by roxybeast » September 4th, 2008, 11:19 pm

Senator McCain in his own words:

"I don't work for ANY party" ...

"I stand up against Democrats and Republicans" ...

"I am a Maverick" ...

"I am not a (Republican), I am an American" ...

"I stand up against the corruption in both parties - Democrat and Republican" ...

"We lost the trust of some Americans when some Republicans gave into corruption" ...

"We lost their trust when we (Republicans in charge) valued power over principals" ...

"I will stand up against pork barrel spending measures" -- which has to make his Republican colleagues responsible for a lot of it very, very willing to support him. :)

It's very hard to believe that hard-core or life-long Republicans are happy about having to support a candidate who regularly makes such anti-Republican statements.

As to policy issues ...

McCain talks of creating new jobs, but it his own parties policies - the same tax policies that he was first against and now wants to keep in place - that caused this situation. McCain talks of improving the economy but wants to continue the same unsuccessful economic policies and appointees that have created more foreclosures, record bankruptcies, more unemployment, less jobs, massive debt and a weakened US dollar.

McCain favors school vouchers, which most public education experts say is a bad idea:
Gutting public schools that need improvement in favor of government funding charter schools instead of putting better teachers and resources in those poorly performing schools will have a drastically negative effect on public education, in addition to encouraging the best teachers to leave the public school system in favor of higher paying jobs at private schools, and will leave entire neighborhoods without schools.

McCain talks of dissatisfaction with rulings by conservative judges that his Republican colleagues voted in favor of seating and that the Democrats had rightly opposed.

McCain fails to acknowledge and accept that it is his own party, his own Republican colleagues - whose support is critical to his success if elected - who have failed the American people and put our economy, our dollar and our foreign policy in the toilet. The Republican leadership is just not going to magically step aside if he is elected.

McCain is painting a fairy tale of change, while he has changed a lot of his positions to conform to the expectations of the Republican party, its leadership and its financiers. While he promises change, he cannot deliver it without a drastic change and house-cleaning of the Republican leadership in the Senate and the House. So unless he intends to fire all the Republican leadership ... this is not "change you can believe in."

It's hilarious how quickly the Republicans are running from their own party's record & the facts. It's almost like they're trying to paint themselves as some "new" third party. :)

I'd love to hear your comments and thoughts ...

I was scribbling down what McCain was saying as I was watching his speech ... not sure if I got everything word for word (since I'm not a stenographer) ... but I know it's a fair representation of what he said.
