The cost of being good

Post by Doreen Peri » September 15th, 2008, 6:17 pm

Mommy, you should pay me to get good grades!
All the kids on honor roll tell me they get paid.
My friend's mom pays a twenty for every A!
And she earned ten more when she cleaned her room today.

Wow!, I said! That's generosity!
Do you think that's what being good should cost me?
That's not how it worked in my neighborhood.
My parents never paid me to be good...

I was good for nothing.

:D

The cost of being bad

This process worked in reverse for me
I had a weekly allowance
it started out at five dollars
and then the deductions would start
didn't do my chores today? Minus fifty cents.
teased my sister until she cried? Minus a dollar

When report card time came
the system was much the same
A 'B' was the base line
An 'A' was plus one
A 'C' was minus one
if I hit the median 'B' I would get nothing
but I would get a fiver for every positive point
if I was in negative numbers, I would pay from my allowance

I did. It elicited a snicker from me. Mainly because I wasn't, either.

I was flogged to get good grades, being the typical teenage
underachiever that I was, I needed incentive....of course girls and drugs were a terrible distraction, so I was forced to skillfully alter the report cards....thanx for posting........
