DeLay to tsunami victims--it's your own fault Allah lovers

Post by Lightning Rod » January 12th, 2005, 10:34 am

Tom Delay quoted this passage from Matthew at a Congressional prayer meeting on Jan 4, referring to the tsunami victims:

Saith DeLay:

"A reading of the Gospel, in Matthew 7:21 through 27.

Not every one who says to me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the kingdom of heaven; but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

Many will say to me on that day, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?

"Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you: depart from me, you evil doers.'"

Everyone who listens to these words of mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man, who built his house on a rock:

The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew, and buffeted the house, but it did not collapse; it has been set solidly on rock.

And everyone who listens to these words of mine, but does not act on them, will be like a fool who built his house on sand:

The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew, and buffeted the house, and it collapsed and was completely ruined."

He finishes reading, says nothing more, and sits back down.

These are the kind of bigoted assholes that are running our government.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Taking something out of context and twisting it to suit their particular views is such a Republican thing to do. I'm not well versed on the Bible, I haven't read it for a long time ... so I thought i'd look up that section. Most fascinating! Too bad Delay skipped over the first couple of lines --- but then like I said, seeing, and reading only what they choose is their m.o.. [mirror, mirror on the wall...]

I don't know if this bible passage is true or not, but if it is ... Delay just wrote his own future ... and without evening knowing it, the last laugh will be on him.

~ahhhh ... you gotta luv it!

Matthew
Chapter 7

1 "Stop judging, that you may not be judged.
2
For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.
3
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?
4
How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye?
5
You hypocrite, 3 remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye.
6
"Do not give what is holy to dogs, 4 or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.
7
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8
For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9
Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread, 5
10
or a snake when he asks for a fish?
11
If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.
12
6 "Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.
13
7 8 "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many.
14
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.
15
9 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.
16
By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17
Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.
18
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.
19
Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
20
So by their fruits you will know them.
21
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, 10 but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
22
Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?'
23
Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. 11 Depart from me, you evildoers.'
24
12 "Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
25
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.
26
And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.
27
The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined."
28
13 When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,
29
14 for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Thanks for the link LR! ~ amazing! He certainly does use Matt 7. It's not the style of music I normally listen to, so I’m glad you brought him up.

I wasn’t I familiar with Barry Gremillion ... so after listening to the musical tidbit, I went off in search of more info and found:

Hi Deb!

Barry is a long-time friend of LR's (35 years or so). They have collaborated on many projects together. He works as a Location Manager for hollywood films and is also a fine artist, musician, composer & writer, as you've discovered.

You can listen to more of his music here
http://barrygremillion.com/music.html

Bottom of that page on the left, Barry tells of how he arranged for LR and I to go into the recording studio to record some of our poetry ... to which he added music and soundscapes ...plus mixed and produced the pieces for us... the CD becoming our "Oral Sets" CD. We are grateful to have his support, encouragement, and talents in our lives!

I am honored to *know* him - I used asterisks because I haven't been graced with his personal presence yet, but he is planning a visit here in the Spring which we are very much looking forward to!

I'm glad you discovered him! Barry is an awesome multi-talented individual! And not only that, he's funny as hell! He'll call here and keep me laughing for an hour or two!
