Ally ally in free!

Post by Doreen Peri » October 3rd, 2008, 2:07 pm

OK, game's over!

ally ally in free!

Where ya at?

Here I am checking in. I've been to meetings every day this week but nothing has come of them. I got paid yesterday for 1/2 of August so I celebrated and bought myself some groceries. I wrote 2 poems this week, did 50 crunches every day and walked around the block, went to the gym once and went swimming, screwed up my paintings (again!!!... have been working on them for 3 months and they belong in the trash), searched craigslist for opportunities, and have been taking an hour power nap every day at 3pm. My scrabble rating is in the tubes, but my spirits are high. It's autumn. The leaves are turning colors. I'd like to do an Autumn Word Jam here, what do you guys think? I had chinese food the other night and my fortune said "Get your mind set. Confidence will lead you on." And so I am confident. I stayed up all night last night confidently chasing an elusive chirping cricket. I've had interesting dreams all night which I should write into movie scripts. I'm thinking of starting something called "Poetry Theater." I just ate a muffin and had a cup of coffee. Lots of cream.

How about you? What have you been up to?

Tag, you're it!

judih ..... cool! would love to read your article! Who have you been interviewing or who has been interviewing you? Fill us in! Glad to hear you're celebrating with days off and the kibbutz work must be rewarding.... I'm lucky to live in a neighborhood where neighbors help each other which isn't exactly the same but it's similar anyway. Yes! Let the puppet faces begin when you have time and we'll fall jam soon! When would be good for you? Next weekend maybe?

dave .... excellent! math in school! that's great! can't wait to see some of your fall leaf photos in your artlog!

Anybody else out there gotta story to tell? Wazzup 8s?

posted a response to this and lost it. oh well, here goes again

first -Yes! Jam, next weekend, please!

next - I'm still working in school (more than full-time), doing some tutoring after hours, working an American - Israeli 8th grade connection project, (we have a private site on Facebook - which is really great for this kind of photo/discussion/quick glance sort of group.)

i'm blogging: http://talkingnow.wordpress.comLet My People Know

and i'm waiting for my 1st article to come out in Shakoof ('transparency'), a new online democratic newspaper. So far i'm the only writer in English - but there'll be lots more for sure and writers in Arabic, of course.

i'll let you know when it gets published.
meanwhile:
http://www.shakoof.org.il/about-shakoof/

and with a 2 week school break coming up, i plan on doing more reading (yeah- "How I Became Hettie Jones" - Hettie Jones/ "Minor Characters" - Joyce Johnson/ "Freewheelin ..." Suze Rotolo about the early years with Dylan) and lots more

so Jam is good!

I am temperate. Modest. Humble, even. Autumn always makes me feel that way. You get to watch all that lush green earth die in front of you and you realize how fragile life is. You think you're important only because you trick yourself into thinking that your life cannot be ended as quickly as the falling leaves from the trees. Hundreds of them, littering the ground, dead, and thousands more wanting to be born. To take your place. I am grateful for the reality check. You get so wrapped up in trying to have a life that you forget to just LIVE.

Myla and I had our weekly trip to Wilmette Monday evening and the weather was perfect. Mid-60s all day, and I could smell the earth in the air, blown up by the slight breeze. We split a big cinnamon roll from Panera bread and took the train home, like we always do. And I felt better about everything. For a while.

I got in my first blog post of the season for my modes brainchild "The Amazing Technicolor Fraud", and I was proud. Despite the fact that I'm almost sure no one reads it but me. But it's my outlet. My weekly rant to the world. And, like I say in my most recent post, if seeing the movie "Eagle Eye" has taught me anything, it's that there's ALWAYS someone watching.

I watched the debate last night and couldn't sleep. It is now 5 in the morning here. And there is no sun. Even the sirens and loud music from obnoxious neighbors has stopped. I caught up on Gossip Girl on line, read 7 chapters of "Dexter in the Dark" and downloaded 197 tracks off limewire. I am feeling so very alive. I hope to keep going.

I finished my novel. Well, novella, cuz it's only 150 pages long.
But it's finished.
It's really rough, gonna need a lot of work.
But the damn thing is done.
Just a first draft, story I've tried to tell for years, lots of love, life, tragedy and salvation. Had to let the characters write themselves. Beyond my control.
And it's all finally down on paper.
And seven days before my 45th birthday.

Peace,
Barry

congratulations to you, Barry. I can only imagine the great joy that come from completing such as labor of love as a novella. There are so many fictional lives out there that I have left un-lived... imaginary dialogue left unsaid. And I hope you will forgive me, but I must confess a twinge of jealousy that you have achieved what I have longed to achieve for so long.
