I really like Obama but I'm getting perturbed

Post by Doreen Peri » October 30th, 2008, 9:07 pm

I get an email almost every 2 days asking for money. I already gave them money and I really couldn't afford to give them the money I did but I did it anyway. But they keep asking for more.

It's starting to look like spam and I'm getting a little resentful.

On the news I've heard that Obama's campaign has spent more than any other campaign in history and most all of it was raised grassroots like this. Well that's all fine and I know that he spent $3mill on last nights Obamamercial which was a beautiful show.. it really was... and I really WANT him to be President and I AM going to vote for him but this is getting ridiculous... this begging in my email.

Here's the latest I just got tonight. Now WHY are they claiming they have way less money than the McCain campaign when everything I hear on the news says the opposite?

i don't get it.

Here's the letter I just got.

_____________
doreen --

I'm the Chief Financial Officer for Barack Obama's campaign. I track the donations coming in and the expenses going out.

I asked for the opportunity to write to you directly so that I could try to explain what's happening right now.

This organization has thousands of employees and spends millions of dollars a day -- and at the moment we're doing it without a safety net.

Our spending plans have been stretched by John McCain's negative attacks and the overwhelming resources of the Republican National Committee.

As of October 15th, John McCain and the RNC together had nearly $20 million more in cash than the combined total of Obama for America and the DNC. And just this week, we're facing new and unexpected spending against us in Montana and West Virginia.

Your incredible generosity has gotten us this far. But right now we need your help more than ever to get this campaign across the finish line.

Please donate $100 or whatever you can afford right now:

My team and I are working to stretch every dollar in order to keep as many paths to victory open as possible. But we need whatever help you can provide for this crucial final stretch.

Thank you,

MM

Chief Financial Officer
Obama for America

I'd just tell them "I gave what I could and I voted. Good luck to the both of us. Thank you... and please remove me from your mailing list." Maybe whoever is responsible for those mailings will get the hint, eh?

Well, I was going to do that... but I don't want to be removed from the list because sometimes they share videos and info I don't get anywhere else and I want to know what's going on. But thanks, Cecil.

I really just think they should be more subtle about it. I don't mind the links in every mail it's just that if that's the whole purpose of the mail, it gets a little tiresome. Maybe they could tag the link onto a story of interest, a report?

On the other hand, I DO understand it, though. We have an election to win. It will be over soon. I shouldn't be complaining.

I do wonder why they're claiming McCain has more money, though, and that's not what I've heard anywhere.

Well I doubt either side would like to share their financial situation with the other. I find their request to you to be a strange thing as the McCain camp could easily find out about it and use the info to their own advantage.

Check out today's letter
doreen --

I want you to be there with me on Election Night when the results come in.

We're planning a big event that will include tens of thousands of supporters in Grant Park in downtown Chicago.

We're saving some of the best seats in the house for 5 people who have given to the campaign before -- and who decide to make a donation one last time before Sunday at midnight.

If you're selected, you can bring a guest, and we'll fly you in and put you up in a hotel for the night. You'll go backstage at the big event and -- no matter what happens -- you'll have a front row seat to history as we celebrate the supporters who got us over the finish line.

Any donation counts -- whatever you can afford. Show your support at this crucial time with a donation of $100 or more, and you could join me on Election Night:

[link to donate]

This movement for change has been a testament to the power of ordinary Americans coming together to achieve extraordinary things.

I look forward to having you there on Election Night.

Thank you,

Barack
I almost said YAY!!! I'll give them more money! I can bring my daughter and fly to Chicago and sit in the front row and meet him and they'll pay for the flight and the hotel! YAY!!!

And then.... and then I realized that what it says is "If you're selected" .... key word "IF" ... and when you hit the link it says, "You could be there with Barack on Election Night when the results come in".... Key word "COULD."

Sorta reminds me of the the come ons I've gotten in mail from Publisher's Clearing House that say "YOU HAVE WON TEN MILLION DOLLARS" .... and then the fine print underneath says, "If your entry is selected."

Sighhhh

I was ready to pack my bags and send them some more money....

Sorta slick advertising, eh?

I think so. Sorta sly. Too sly. Makes me a little leery.

Now... had they actually selected the people in advance from their contributers list, that would seem better but instead, it looks to me like everybody who contributed to the campaign is getting one of these emails, most likely.

Now I ask you.... if the campaign will be over on Tuesday, Election Day.... then why do they need more money?

I love Obama. I'd marry him if Michelle wasn't in my way! LOL!!!... just sayin tho....

What do you think of this email solicitation? Do you find it to be a little..... sly? Possibly unclear? If you got this would you, like me, have thought that you had been actually selected already?

Rick Davis Sees "One of the Greatest Comebacks"
By Juliet Eilperin

Davis said that by running so many "hybrid" ads with the Republican National Committee over the past several weeks the campaign had been able to conserve its resources, and that -- in combination with a $20 million RNC independent expenditure -- the campaign will exceed Obama and the Democratic National Committee's ad spending by $10 million in the last week,

I been thinking that our national anthem should be Idiot Wind.

I ran into the fortune-teller, who said beware of lightning that might strike
I haven't known peace and quiet for so long I can't remember what it's like.
There's a lone soldier on the cross, smoke pourin' out of a boxcar door,
You didn't know it, you didn't think it could be done, in the final end he won the wars
After losin' every battle.

Whoever wins
I think I will watch a movie Tuesday night.
No doubt Clay is right
John McCain will be a big improvement over George Bush.

Doreen... you have given reason why I don't give to anything that requires a name, number, address or any other identification. no exceptions... money is something everyone and everything needs and given today's climate of economics, hush... is the smartest thing to give.

interesting word choice
per·turb (pr-tûrb)
tr.v. per·turbed, per·turb·ing, per·turbs
1. To disturb greatly; make uneasy or anxious
welcome to amerika
because that's the way it is here
we are god's chosen country

I was perturbed because both Obama and McPain would not answer the question whether Iran is a threat to the United States. They both gave similiar answers but at least Obama said he would talk to Iran before we start to bomb Iran.

Obama is the best man, no doubt, McCain would be okay I guess, but lordy if he dies in office, I think I will move to NORTH WAZIRISTAN

Who am I kidding, I am too broke to leave town. I guess I would go down with the ship like the German Jew on the Ship of Fools

oh doreen... well, in an inspired? day I would tell him: hey, I gave you enough money and only because I wanted to do it. Now it´s enough, it´s time for you to do something!!!!! :? To gave money to big politicians sounds a little weird for my ears, but maybe it´s a better situation than the possibility that only big corporations do the job...! I don´t know, it´s really a weird system!!!!

Probably, knowing how the Kalamazoo Democratic Party works, they are worried about people assuming the election is won and not voting. I know here they are doing all day canvassing until election day to reach every person in the city to encourage people 1) to vote 2) to vote for Obama and other Democrats and to 3) offer free transportation to the polls for those unable to provide it on their own.

I would think that the Obama campaign would be using the money they are asking for to help fund this on the national level, as well as push the campaign at the national level.

That being said, I get the e-mails as well, and they are mildly annoying.

I was getting e - mails from John Kerry begging me for money. This was even well after the election was over.
