The Wild Wordsmith of Wasilla
Dick Cavett

What will ambitious politicos learn from this? That frayed syntax, bungled grammar and run-on sentences that ramble on long after thought has given out completely are a candidate’s valuable traits?

And how much more of all that lies in our future if God points her to those open-a-crack doors she refers to? The ones she resolves to splinter and bulldoze her way through upon glimpsing the opportunities, revealed from on high.

I liked this comment to Cavett's piece a lot.
Palin’s patter derives from her most extensive area of training: teen beauty pagent contestant. A contestant is given 90 seconds to respond to a panel’s question. She prepares (is more likely is prepped) by assembling stock answers for rapid delivery. Stock answers are crammed with words and concepts designed to overwhelm the questioners. As the latter are not a PhD panel, the range of acceptable and even “impressive” blurted replies is large.

Palin is captive of that speaking style. It would require pschoanalysis to shift her away from going into overdrive when questioned on a subject of any complexity.
politics and the english language George Orwell

A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks. It is rather the same thing that is happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.

Sure, whatever.

Shoot moose from a helicopter.
Or Iranians, maybe, if national security says so. (Right, Ronnie?)

So I log on this morning and the first thing I see is an article about cross-burnings and racial terrorism directed at Obama supporters. I mean, cross burnings! In 2008! Jesus Hotrod Christ, I swear we are a nation of dumb fuck racist thugs who wouldn't know our ass from a brain cell at any cost. Founding fathers and liberty my ass. I bet it was these type of malevolent, mercenary Neo-NeanderKlan hicks that abused Abu Ghraib too, though the whole affair over there was a desecration to begin with.

If this is the best spirit of "freedom" that we have to offer the world, then fuck it. We ain't "liberating" anyone. Racist bastards. Grow the fuck up or go the fuck away. Choke on your God-fearing hate, on your tape-recorded trickle-down poverty. Just choke on it.

Btw, I love you. Come join the Christian community some day, eh? See y'all in church.

Nice rant, mnaz... and one brought on by the same damn article I read, I'm sure. Twisted society that we are when we have 2nd and 3rd graders shouting "assassinate Obama" in their public school bus... shame upon those parents from Idaho. They should be arrested for spreading racism. Mercy!

And of course, Palin did nothing to curb the shouts of hatred against our next President at her rallies... must be another milemarker for this country.
