If this is man to man, believe me friend—
believe me when I say I love you—bold
and fresh and fearfully I love you far
apart from loud admittance—hidden in
respectful distance since I’m unaware
how best to share this truth, this honor: love.
I love your personhood. I love your thought.
I love you brotherly—and if I ought
deny my heavy admiration of
your creativity and faith for bare
disgraceful shame that love for men is sin,
then love does not exist. How lovely are
the feet of him who brings good news extolled
in holy love; may I such love extend.

I love this piece, joel
I guess we could call it poetiphilia
it had to bring this to my mind:
We can love ya
Till ya have a heart attack
You'd best believe that's true
We'll bite your neck
And scratch your back
Till you don't know what to do
What you need is . . .
Motherly love
Motherly love
Forget about
The brotherly and other-ly love
Motherly love
Is just the thing for you
You know your Mothers' gonna love ya
Till ya don't know what to do

Liberation theologies are amazing and necessary. Theologies of Latin American, Black, Feminist, Womanist, Classist, Ecological, Asian, Sexual, et al, liberation have an intense mission: calling for oppressed populations to gain their own conscientization and to redefine themselves for liberated being. But it's a shame that, even as the oppressed populations of the world seek redefinition from the chains of patriarchy, the priviliged population of the patriarchal system (male, white, adult, educated, heterosexual, married, wealthy, et cetera) doesn't seek redefinition away from the patriarchy. As long as liberation theologies don't explore a viable new way to be male (i.e. not perpetuating the predominant stereotypes of the objective, rational, non-relational, non-emotional, spiritually devoid, sports-based kinesthetic superman), all the oppressed peoples will still be trying to get out from under my--I mean, our--I mean, their--I don't know what I mean--finger. What's so wrong with real brotherly love? Wish I knew...and sorry for the rant....Lightning Rod wrote:Forget about
