What year was that, Dave? Looks like the 70's to me...
Nina Simone recording was 1968...

Oh I see... he recorded it in 1956 and the recording became popular then.. just looked it up.

Original or remake so long as it sounds good!!!! That performance by Screamin' Jay Hawkins was from a late Eighties TV show. That song is used in the movie "Stranger Than Paradise". I have it on cd as well!!!! Say speaking of this song do you remember ever listening to it???? When it came out at that time????
