My Birthday Poem

Post by Lightning Rod » November 30th, 2004, 9:00 pm

lime, viagra and resurrection, this happens on birthdays
I never though I'd make it past thirty, but that's my mistake.

first I did the Time and then the salt and then the tequila
Is that out of order? Perhaps, but so am I.

I never thought I would make it to 56, what with my bad habits.
but it's just my luck, to be fucked by longevity

ok, the tequila first and then the lime and then the salt
no, wait, that's not right either. But I don't stand on tradition.

my rendition of drunkeness is a metaphor, like my life.
I live in the old west of tequila and gunfighters.

to survive you have to be able to shoot as straight
stoned drunk as cold sober. Which brings us back to tequila.

it comes from the maguay plant. fermented and distilled
don juan told about allies and the merit of experience over enthusiasm

I'm just glad to have made it this far without finding my power spot
If I make it to sixty, I'll be amazed. Like a drop-jawed crucifix wandering

oh, don't mourn for my old age. I'll die young as Alexander, a hero unattached
another year like a tally of recollections after death

I died long ago and all you see is my spirit version
a waif longing and ardent and sinister.

Happy Birthday to Me.
the lime, the tequila, and then the salt?
