"Heh"

Post by Doreen Peri » March 28th, 2008, 11:35 am

When I use "heh" on the internet, it means I'm chuckling or giggling... a little laugh... not as big as "lol" which means "laughing outloud."

But someone just told me on another site that they read "heh" as a condescending, ridiculing, holier-than-thou statement.

I was really surprised by this.

How do you read it when someone uses "heh"? Do you think they're laughing or do you think they are saying you're stupid or you're not as good as them or something?

Here's a link to "Urban Dictionary".... there are 4 pages of definitions. Looks like most of them say it's about laughing but there are some that say other things.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=heh

What does "heh" mean to you?

(I must stop using it, btw, since it has so many meanings, some of which I don't mean! lol ... and by THAT i do mean, I'm laughing outloud! ;))

thank you doreen
this is a perfect example of why emoticons are useless
(am I laughing WITH you or AT you?... )
see, you can't tell
the answer is exact and expressive language
it needs no emoticons

btw, out loud is two words
(heh)

pics and emoticons aside,
the folks who use 'heh' to me are very cool - so 'heh' has always been a cool kind of exhale with positive overtones.

myself, i don't heh - i 'ahh' when something rings true. (what does the dictionary say about ahh?)
