misfortune teaches us the truth
time passes, squandered
in forgotten moments, your children
grow before sleeping eyes
and when you wake
they won't recognize or even guess
what occupied you in your dreams

decades pass in the cubicle -
neurotic flirtations with Jane -
white bread in brown bag -
shredded memoranda -
punched in and out...

what will I do when death shakes my hand?
what will I say to my son?
the sunset looks beautiful tonight
I never noticed until now

"The unexamined life is not worth living"... Socrates (I think)

You hit a nerve with this one, Dino. I've been pondering my life's direction today especially. I've got one of those paper-shuffling cubicle gigs, and it's honorable work and all, and I don't really regret the time spent doing it, but it's just hard for me to see it as the final answer in my ongoing vocational quest. I just find it so... well, confining. I was just talking to Cecil about this earlier today. Well done and impactful piece.

And I'd really like to see that movie as well.

it's a diamond, Dino!
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
