I Hear You

Post by saw » September 10th, 2008, 10:54 am

I remember the day
like it was my birthday,
the day your Karmann Ghia
ran over my pet dogma,
flattened it out
like a cancerous crepe
and we wolfed it down
like a stained eucharist
laughing at our mule-ish ears,
our pinnocchio noses,
doubling in half at the waist,
tears of latent happiness
streaming down our warrior cheeks,

laughing, crying, laughing, screaming,
laughing, slaying ourselves
with bellyfire laughs deep down
in the guts of simple truth,
laughing like hopped-up hyenas
at our infantile resistance,
our dilemma to move an inch or two
into the other lane for a moment
so the other could pass......

so we bolted like frisky lovers
out onto the front lawn,
in the courtyard of the planets
twirling in concentric circles of joy
fingers laced like antique boots,
adjectives inept, verbs unnecessary,
as a flashing message appeared
in a celestial neon bible
highlighted in purple mist,
illuminated in the charred skyline
by the drunken lights of dead poets...

LETTERS, HUMONGOUS LETTERS,
TWO HUNDRED FIFTY FEET TALL.......

LISTEN !
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

I really liked

"flattened it out
like a cancerous crepe "

and

"we wolfed it down
like a stained eucharist"

and

"he drunken lights of dead poets"

the sublime to the surreal
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."
