Assassinate My Character - I Double-Dare You!

Help! I am in serious need of a Palin-ectomy! Somebody needs to save America from itself ... hopefully, YOU! Vote! With only 30 days left until the Presidential election, things are bound to get nasty. I refuse, however, even as a Patriotic US citizen, under any circumstances, to follow the command of any "leader" that uses the phrase "darn-tootin!" Or, "darn-right!" Think about all the times in your life in social situations/discussions where a stranger winked at you ... did you trust them? ... did it make you feel more comfortable about their motive?

Did Sarah Palin make any serious gaffs in Thursday's debate ... no, ... but did she change anybody's mind ... well, if we go by the pre-debate v. post-debate poll numbers ... no. However, that type of polling and analysis by the mainstream media misses the point. The real question is did she convince you that she could be an effective leader or that she has what it takes to be the President of the United States? The answer is clear: "No!" Palin clearly avoided answering a lot of questions on which the Republican policies have failed and instead tried to "connect" with Joe 6-pack and soccer/hockey moms with a wink, a smile, and slight of mental hand. As one commentator put it, "it was almost as if she was purposefully avoiding addressing anything complex." And, that, of course, is the problem ... Presidents' can't just wink & nod & smile & be cutesy ... at some point, actually all points, they have to understand and be decisive about many complex issues, often under extreme pressure. Did Joe Biden demonstrate that he had the right stuff? ... "Darn-tootin!" Did Palin? No ... not unless you're mentally incapable of progressing beyond sixth grade ... and even then.

On the campaign trail this weekend, after the debate, Palin boldly pronounced that Obama & Biden were unpatriotic AND consorted with terrorists. Where I come from those are fightin' words, and it doesn't matter if you're a woman, you still deserve to get punched in the face! So there you have it, the Karl-Rovian Republican strategy for the next 30 days ... try to assassinate Obama's character and his patriotism. Maybe the American electorate will just forget the impending gloom and doom of the largest economic crisis since the Great Depression. Slight of hand ... sell them the image of McCain being a more patriotic, flag-waiving war hero, and more experienced commander-in-chief, and that Obama is an unpatriotic Muslim terrorist coddler who won't even salute the flag. If we sling enough of this political mud, perhaps the American public will just set aside any rational and responsible view of the situation and vote against their pocketbooks; perhaps they'll forget the lies & misguided Republican strategy to fight an unnecessary war in Iraq and taking our eye off the real terror threat in Afghanistan; perhaps they'll forget that they don't have a job anymore because some MNC shipped it overseas; perhaps they will forget that the Republican strategy to de-regulate Wall Street, in which McCain played a major role, helped cause the current $700 billion financial disaster and has lead to major flip-flopping by McCain in his views on economic and regulatory issues. And, by the way Sarah, to follow-up on your answer to Katy Couric's question, where is the proof you promised of McCain ever backing any significant regulatory measures? Never-mind the truth, ... instead let's bring on the swift-boaters, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's & the worst of American politics ... unleash the Republican hell-hounds for the Democrats might actually win this time around. God help us!

Aren't we better than that? Shouldn't we expect more of our leaders? Shouldn't we demand civility and sticking to serious & important issues ... particularly if we actually contributed to the campaign coffers funding this mud-slinging? At some point shouldn't the mainstream media just tell a candidate ... "No, we are not going to air anymore of your or your opponents attack ads ... go somewhere else to air them, but our TV network will no longer be a part of it?" There is no legal requirement, Constitutional or otherwise, that a news agency or TV/cable network actually air these types of ads - only that they be fair & apply the same policies to all of the candidates. So ABC, CBS, & NBC - "Just Say No!" Any network bold enough to actually do so might find that the resulting gain in new & loyal viewers would offset any loss in political advertising revenues, which would also inevitably be filled by their regular advertising clients. Really, wouldn't you prefer to watch a beer commercial than another negative mud-slinging character assassinating half-truth political attack ad?

I know I would ... and I don't even drink beer.

Peace,
Beth

Video documenting blatant distortions in McCain's ads

Post by roxybeast » October 11th, 2008, 3:35 am

Speaking of character assassination, here's a video documenting the blatant falsehoods and distortions in McCain's current attack ads against Obama:

Pass this e-mail & video on to your friends & acquaintances.

PS--even if you think some of Obama's ads are one-sided, they do not sink to this level of blatant distortion and intentional deception.
