bbc4 had a buddy holly night. I watched a documentary and the film The Buddy Holly Story. I spent the rest of that night listening to Buddy Holly tracks. Such ridiculously simple songs but arranged in such a way...

the only interesting thing I learned from the doc. was that the flight was chartered by buddy. richey valens tossed a coin for the seat of one of holly's band members cause he'd never been on a small plane before. and the big bopper had flu. he wanted to take the flight so he could arrive in the next town quicker than he would by bus and so, have time to rest up. those two were on the plane cause two other guys gave up their seats.

22 years of age though! Fucking horrible luck for the world of pop music.

bennie: "I swear quite a lot and some people suggest it's a defense mechanism along with my sarcasm mixed with periods of massive silence"

defending a castle of isolation where silence is the norm is not a place most folks would care to inhabit. which begs the question - "why the defense mechanism?"

perhaps the desire for acceptance is what is at hand. not unusual in and of itself. we all desire a certain degree of hu'man connection... moreso when our hunger for it becomes our chief denial. we deny that which we strongly desire but have lead ourselves to believe we can never have. we become gluttons of our own punishment.
