In a telepathic world there would be no spoken or written language. Therefore, were you or I to stumble across them---were we, say, spacefarers arriving on a populated planet---we would think them backward and mute.
Imagine if you were as intelligent as you are but you had no words to order your thoughts. What would your thoughts consist of?
Images and emotions.
If you were telepathic, that's what you would communicate---images and the emotions that go with them. There would be no intellect to put everything into words. You would transmit images and what you felt about them. It would be a language entirely of metaphor. But with images of things that actually happened. You wouldn't tell someone what happened, you'd show them. And give them what you felt about it. It would be real, true communication.
Yet if we looked on them that communicated this way we would see them as backward and mute.
Which is exactly how so many see the animal world.
Maybe the animal world is the telepathic world and we humans are the ones backward and mute.
Let's discuss.
Peace,
Barry
How Do You See Animals?
I hear you its hard to say much more.
there are several types of ntlect/understanding and even more ways of communicating....yeah
i love my cats- all three of them, I sing Queen's "love of my life" or at least the refrain to one of them- i think he understands me but probably not because of the song. actually i have to stop talking now cause he just started drinking some tea- you know i'm from the south so i quess its Ice tea to the rest of the world....
I think some of us are born seeing in images more so then others, i'm dyslexic and i imagine my brain over time has copped a little bit by thinking inwords but i often catch myself seeing things first before finding words for what that is...

Blah!
"You wouldn't tell someone what happened, you'd show them. And give them what you felt about it. It would be real, true communication."
wouldn't showing them be from the perspective of your own eyes seeing from your one position rather than that of, say, someone 4 feet away to the left? what i'm trying to get at, Barry, is what we see, what we talk about is all a matter of perspective which includes positioning... where we're at both physically and mentally (and spiritually). our perspectives change as we change our place in this world. our communications would be as true as it possibly is right now.
telepathy. i've often thought when i'm suddenly overtaken by a thought of someone... not invited, but intruded so to speak, that is the person thinking about me or vice-versa... i think about them at that one point in time and they somehow acknowledge it. two souls thinking of each other at the same time, sparking a recognition of something transcendent... telepathically in communications until the message has been transmitted.
"Maybe the animal world is the telepathic world and we humans are the ones backward and mute."
i believe that... the animal world is telepathic. they communicate by sight, by sound, by smell or touch plus i think depending upon the species, they communicate telepathically. i think that happens to humans also but only those that accept the reality of it....
i'm reminded of a story i heard long ago about the aborigines of australia. a white worker had a native working for him and without any real warning, the native approached his boss and said he had to return to his home in the outback. the boss asked why? it was so sudden. the aborigine calmly replied one of his relatives had just died and he had to go back for the burial ceremony... the tribe had called him. there was no phone call to the man. the boss asked him how he was told and the aborigine simply said they let him know just a few minutes prior to that time.
telepathy? quite possibly the original means of communicating long distances between tribal families, but pretty much lost due to newer technological means of 'instant communications'...
between animals. i'm sure you've heard about family dogs that know when their master is returning home - the dog becomes restless some 5 to 10 minutes, and sometimes more, by pacing the area in front of the main door or quietly barks to itself and then about a minute before the car pulls into the driveway, the dag is looking out the window, tail wagging, barking with joy. this has happened to us and our dogs we've had over the years. either my wife or me have been witness to the behavior many times. telepathic? methinks so.

I had considered putting in a line to this effect, Cecil, but decided it would just be a given. You are correct, though. It would be "true" communication only in the limited fashion of such that is possible between individual discrete units of consciousness. But see, I personally value highly the freedom inherent in being a discrete unit of individual consciousness, rather than a component of a group mind, while I respect those who value the other mode, ala namsate.wouldn't showing them be from the perspective of your own eyes seeing from your one position rather than that of, say, someone 4 feet away to the left? what i'm trying to get at, Barry, is what we see, what we talk about is all a matter of perspective which includes positioning... where we're at both physically and mentally (and spiritually). our perspectives change as we change our place in this world. our communications would be as true as it possibly is right now.
To both of you, it was my own realtionship with Pepper, a cat, that helped me come to the understanding I have of these concepts. When the water bowl or the food bowl needs filling, he lets me know. Maybe it's just body language, subtle nonverbal cues, but I like to think of it as telepathy. He came to me at a time when I didn't think I could love anymore. And he showed me I still could. He chose me to come home with and end his life as a feral cat, come in from the cold and be a house cat again. I think that means we have a connection. He reads my mind and I read his.
Peace,
Barry

Wish my cat let me know with telepathy that his food and water bowls were empty. Not mine. He mews and whines and screeches scratches at my bedroom door, bangs his head on the door to use his own skull as a knocker, and follows me around trying to trip me up. And this, only 15 minutes after I fed him.
.... but then again, he's not a cat, he's a pig. heh
As for the topic at hand, it's often crossed my mind that animals are smarter, wiser, and more evolved.
With language, it's a wonder we ever can communicate. Words can mean multiple things.

yes!
so... maybe animals are not smarter than humans, they simply didn´t have words! (I´m a bit joking here, I´m not too fond in non-human-animals but I sometimes enjoy observing reptiles, cats, dogs, insects, fishes and birds!)
Imagine if you were as intelligent as you are but you had no words to order your thoughts. What would your thoughts consist of?
Images and emotions.
interesting thought!. Some could say that if there are no words there are no thoughts. And is thought totally different from emotion?. mmm... today I saw a tv documentary in chapters about the barroque in latinamerica: the primacy of image, rituals, gestures, profusion of details, the synthesis, the mestizaje, the diversity of linguistic languages ... one of the entrevistados said that these times are good times to rethink or re-see the american barroque, it also sounded interesting!
telepathy beyond linguistics... yeah, maybe! I felt connected or in communication beyond space and linguistics several times with very close and not very close people , but I still don´t have ordered thoughts about it!!!!!!

"With language, it's a wonder we ever can communicate. Words can mean multiple things."
Exactly, Doreen. With words, doublespeak is possible, innuendo, sarcasm, etc. Basically, deception: saying one thing and meaning another. This is the intellect doing this, the word part of the brain. The emotion part is much more base, less calculating in some way. It simply feels.
"Some could say that if there are no words there are no thoughts. And is thought totally different from emotion?"
I remember watching a dog dreaming, paws twitching, lip curling, a low growl, and wondering what his thoughts must consist of, what could be stored in his memory with no words. It seems it's got to be images, things that he experienced, and what he felt about them. And this must be thought, it seems to me. Wolves mate for life. And one appears to mourn for a year when its mate dies. This is documented science. How could this not be thought?
Peace,
Barry
