when i listen to the music
i grit my teeth and my body tightens
it reaches into my soul, my memories, my life
suddenly it makes sense
rise from the table of concerns
loosen the tie, roll up my sleeves
tonight the music is my lover
in her arms i will tell all
i will tell her of the dark times
lost, far from home
of brothers who were strangers
and wives who closed the door
this is how a man dances
alone, for and to himself,
there are no words
if i could speak, why would i dance?

Constantine, your poems never cease to instill wonder in me. I used to dance solo to Billy Joel in my wilder days. I felt your poem on a familiar level. :)

music is a powerful connector, it binds histories and cultures together in bundles of awareness that pull us in for a deeper look.....folk art, folk dance, folk music are the glues that ensure the lessons of the past will not be torn apart....enjoyed this one a lot, dino !

Salute.
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

When I listen to the music,
my eyes close and everything
loses it's ought to be and just is
and I melt
into a voluptuous, open, receptive, fiery, hot blooded dirge.
This is how a woman dances alone, for
and to herself.
Shall we dance then?
Love this Dino

there's not a lot of things that bring as much joy as dancing, especially danicing to you own music with no fear of judgment. life is to be lived. & those who choose to dance through it can smile a little brighter because there's a little less bite in the air...

i enjoyed reading this
