The Nay-Sayer
©2009 Beth Isbell
I spent another night with a stranger.
A nay-sayer, a negative being.
Blinded by her own inner darkness.
Reeling in fear, pity and self-loathing.
I am the happy-go-lucky sort.
I like to help. I like to teach.
I live to bring others joy with verse,
and rhyme, and the music within.
She constantly nags. Hers is a
dark brooding reality. Mysterious.
Happiness almost seems like a
foreign word to her. An island.
I remind her that we are here
to be alive. to wonder, to be free.
Free to experience the mystery
and the joy of new discovery, and
the magical adventure of the trip.
To her, there is only the end.
To me, everything is beginning.
I wish I could be rid of her.
But despite my best efforts,
she still remains a part of me.
And perhaps, a necessary part.

well, beth... I guess we are multiple and also one, not needing for that to be ezquizofreniks or monolitics!!!!!!
, and yeah happiness is not only an island but it can be one too, why not?!!!
(by the way, I LOVE islands...!!). I wrote a nay-poem some time ago with the help of a dictionary, it was really funny, you made me remind that, gracias!!!!!!
