[Lightning Rod]

the closet was being cleaned out
there was a lonely satchel in the back
slightly mildewed and stuffed with papers

there were pictures and notes and letters
poems written to me by old girlfriends
(I had forgotten how many girlfriends I had
who thought they were poets)
newspaper clipping, handbills, posters, reviews
song lyrics, music scores, postcards and invitations,
reviews and examples of my bad handwriting

I felt like I had discovered King Tut's tomb
