as several bald eagles flew directly overhead
my significant other and me stood awestruck
along a seashore inlet of Canada’s Cape Breton
the island part of which the Scots fondly call
New Scotland, known in Latin as Nova Scotia

so many eagles around, similar to crow in number
found roosting throughout the Northeast, USA

eagles glided down past both our heads as silent
and seemingly as large as some stealth bomber
or if to imagine the sensation of a prehistoric
thunderbird flying by ominously in hunt of prey
stirring the blood gratefully you’re not a victim

spiritual experiences like with eagle as a mystic
heighten my empathic sensitivity to premonition

our watching of the eagles maneuvering in flight
brought forth a mystical illumination of my spirit
I felt healed by the shadowing wingspan of eagle
spiritually it reassured my mysticism is not in vain
and too showed me psychic premonition has value

hopefully as eagle, my intelligently progressive and
transitionally perceptive insights will bring healing

spending so much time with so many eagles nearby
watching the eagle interact with its surroundings
taught me the observer that eagle lives in harmony
with mother earth, while being of something more
as if connected to all of Nature as a whole system

like Scots leaving home for Nova Scotia, like eagle
some of us will fly beyond mother earth to survive
