Anyone here ever heard of Jack Herer?
He wrote this book, titled The Emperor Wears No Clothes. Read it online here. (scroll down the page for chapter links)

It's ostensibly about marijuana, but it's about more than that. It's about calling into account political and economic forces (read: people) responsible for the plethora of lies perpetrated in the aim of prohibiting and keeping prohibited the cultivation and use of cannabis in a variety of ways medicinal, useful and recreational.
Cannabis is a plant with a class of alkyloids unique to itself. In fact, they're so unique they're not called alkyloids, they're called cannabanoids.

For 72 years medical research on this unique class of chemical compounds has been hampered by marijuana prohibition. Most drugs used in medicine are synthesized from naturally occuring alkyloids found in plants, animals, etc. Imagine what wonders lie undiscoverd in the cannabanoids.
Hemp fiber, derived from the cannabis plant, makes a far more durable cloth than cotton alone, and when combined with cotton makes a comfortable long-lasting fabric. It also can be used for paper and in fact was for centuries before marijuana prohibition took root around the globe. Hemp yields dramatically more paper per acre than wood pulp, and the turnaround time per acre is only a year, as opposed to 20 or so minimum for wood pulp.
Why all this background information? Because it's important to not dismiss this as just some kind of drug thing. And because Jack Herer's book is a bit of truth which has changed the world. Changed it for the better.
Jack's son and his wife run a small retail establishment here in Portland called The Third Eye Shoppe.

Jack had a heart attack recently. He's recovering, but the family is reeling under the weight of the financial blow. They could use your help. A fund has been set up through US Bank, the Jack Herer Donation Fund.

Even a one dollar donation to the fund would be a big help and go a long way toward supporting a man who has worked his whole life to make the world a better place.
Peace,
Barry
