The other day, I fell. I really hurt my wrist. When I first fell, I thought I had broken it because it hurt so much and I couldn't move it. When I said I am now officially old, because I had my first seniors fall, because I did something stupid, my niece said that it is only a seniors fall if you fall while doing a normal everyday activity, like walking or getting out of the bath.
Well, I fell while I was getting dressed. Does that count as an everyday activity? I was getting ready to go out and I was running late, and I hate being late, so I was in a hurry, so instead of sitting down to put on my jeans, I tried to do it on the run.
I grabbed my jeans and as I was walking, I lifted one foot and put it into the leg of the jeans and my foot turned sideways in the leg and it pulled me off balance and I felt myself going backwards, so I stepped back, forgetting that I had a bag of stuff I was taking with me to my daughter's place, and I tripped over the bag. I managed to get my hand out to break my fall, so I wasn't seriously hurt, but I did hurt my wrist and my pride. Not to mention my butt.
The doctor keeps telling me I need to get a bone density test done, but I tell him/her (depending on which one they throw at me in the health center I go to) that I do bone density tests on myself, daily. If I haven't broken anything yet, my bones must be very dense.
I took a header off a curb once while running for a bus, did a somersault into the road and landed on my back but bounced up and ran and didn't miss the bus. I arrived at the job interview with a hole in the knee of my pants and blood running down my elbow and a cut on my head above my right ear. But I wasn't late for my appointment. I got the job.
I smash my shins on coffee tables, bang my head on kitchen cabinets, bump my elbows on door frames; all without breaking anything.
I slipped and fell down the stairs while carrying a clients vacuum cleaner. Missed the top step and went all the way down to the bottom, on my back. The lady came running and saw me at the bottom of the stairs still clutching the vacuum cleaner to my chest. She gasped and asked me if anything was broken, I stood up and looked over the vacuum cleaner and said "No, I think it is okay" She was so mad at me. She said "I don't care about the damn vacuum, I want to know if you are broken."
I fell down a flight of stairs with my grandson's baby in my arms. Again, I missed the top step because I had her in my arms and didn't see that the step started 6" sooner than I expected. Fetched up against a concrete wall. Smashed my head good that time, but didn't even get a headache. And my grandson said somehow I managed to tuck and roll and didn't allow any part of the baby to come in contact with any hard surfaces.
I should have joined the circus. I'd have made a heck of a clown.

Joan, I'm so sorry to hear you fell! Have I told you before that your writing is excellent? This is a really well written piece. I hope you're feeling better now and all healed!
