an meinem Vater

Post by joel » December 17th, 2010, 12:50 pm

Dadio, thanks for many kind words...it's humbling and a blessing to share my wrestling in a safe/supportive community. Thanks again.

My grandpa is all about rules
my daddy has broken like fools
who’ve taught me that life
is both order and strife—
and mine has been rife with both tools.

I gotta thank you, Dadio, for jazz—
for sounds of scat that dat gat up to bat
and hit a word like Billie’s husband has
been hitting her beneath the needles that
are surely playing records somewhere still—
and, beating her unjustly, raise her voice
for freedom in those scratchy songs that kill
the powerful of earth with angels’ choice
to hush it now and leave it unexplained.
I gotta thank you, Dadio, for songs
so hip and free you’ve sung, that – unrefrained –
they’ve turned their mallets to the clanging gongs
of loves once failed till now they’ve freshly hailed
a place for me where Daddy’s word’s been nailed.

My privilege is my diagnosis
without a clearly good prognosis
for holiness’ love,
for joel’s a mess of
theopoetokenosis.

If you do not change your direction
