You could have written a book
About men, could have filled a
Library with the ways and failings
Of that breed. Starting with your
Father you could list them down
Like a poor menu in some cheap
Cafe. You have blue bruises and
Scars to prove their worth; bad
Experiences to sum them up.
One or two good ones slipped
Through the net, but were soon
Gone like sunlight in an arctic winter.
You drag on your cigarette, take
In the smoke. Waste no time with
Regret, Mother said. Life’s no joke;
Not a planned operation in a drawn
Out war. Except for the bringing of
Child or the occasional fuck, you ask,
What are men for? Evening settles in;
The music plays; the drink is poured.
Life without men; darn, you say, I’m bored.
LIFE WITHOUT MEN.
LIFE WITHOUT MEN.
